True. At least I could still upgrade to a hexa core, so I should be set for the next 2 years or so.StarBound wrote:Yeah but if the board or cpu goes then its a complete system replacement.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
My brother upgraded to an i7 like 4 months ago up from a athlon 64 3800x2. That pc lasted 5 years and only thing was that it started getting out of spec for games that are out today.
Re: AMD vs. Intel
i think a i7 860 will be more than ok in games for the next 2 years?

Re: AMD vs. Intel
I think maybe for 4 or 5 years but the problem is if the board or cpu goes its ram, cpu, board that needs replacing. And i7 is insanely powerful.
Re: AMD vs. Intel
Maybe the thing to do then is to sell your current system and get the cheapest 1366 setup you can get (i7 930, Intel board, cheap triple channel kit) while you still can?

Which is probably just another "bells-and-whistles" feature, as I don't think PCI-E 2.0 is even being fully utilised.

Just the half of it is being utilized ! look here !Mystical_Titan wrote:Which is probably just another "bells-and-whistles" feature, as I don't think PCI-E 2.0 is even being fully utilised.

Hey, 3% is 3%! ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
I'm really annoyed that another high-end socket is coming out so soon! Guess I better start saving for the Rampage 4 Extreme...

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Quick question... I bought a HP G62 laptop yesterday. Base specs Intel core i3 M350 2.27Ghz CPU and 4Gb DDR3 memory. Why does my device manager show 4 cores and not 3 like other i3 PC's?

Re: AMD vs. Intel
It doesn't show 3 cores with other i3s... i3 processors have 2 physical cores with hyperthreading, i.e. two threads per core. As a result Windows sees the processor as having 4 cores.

If it eases you you can always say the gpu is nothing without the cpu and vice versa ![Razz :P](./images/smilies/icon_razz.gif)

Re: AMD vs. Intel
intel has lost it with naming schemes & socket types....1155 - 1156 - 1366 - 2011....but the truth is intel dont care bout us...why make profit off of just cpus & chipsets when they can make more money on socket types aswell....truth be told, i see no difference in performance between i7 1156 & i7 1366 other than multi GPU scaling & triple memory layout... of which dont justify the price difference...

Re: AMD vs. Intel
I agree. In fact, the 1156 i7s can turboboost to higher speeds even if the base speeds are the same.truth be told, i see no difference in performance between i7 1156 & i7 1366 other than multi GPU scaling & triple memory layout... of which dont justify the price difference...

Re: AMD vs. Intel
...yup - on my opinion i7 1366 turbo boost was a gimmick...i thought it was kinda of lame to see such a small boost when stressed - i really expected more lol

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Yeah, well, Intel are greedy. They would rather force the consumer to buy a new chipset everytime they bring out a new CPU range.
