Indeed you are, here's how:Xiphan wrote:If I do have any gripes (though I could be doing this wrong) it's that you can't do custom settings for different games. With my older nVidia card I could choose custom settings like cranking AA and AF for certain (older) games that would only come into effect when that game ran or leave it on application controlled if I didn't want it to affect games that are a bit more demanding. With the ATI control panel I haven't been able to figure out how to do this yet?
Set everything the way you want it for a specific game, apply the settings then click on "Options" at the top-right corner of the window. Then point to "Profiles" then "Profile Manager". From there you can save the profile and set activation options.
Enjoy!

You're a bit behind.
But yeah, awesome CPU... if one could actually afford it.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Unless you do HUGE amounts of rendering the 980 is worthless to you. even a 975 is overkill.
AT most a 950. even then you are pushing it. value wise. 920's are the sweet spot for gaming and value. it even OC's well. 4.2ghz easily on AIR and we ran my mates one on 5.2ghz this weekend under LN2 so its a powerful chip.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Yeah, it's going to take a while for Intel to beat the 920.
Re: AMD vs. Intel
Crosshair IV Formula with a 890FX chipset for me at the end of the month. And then possibly trading up my AMD 550 for a new Hexa-Core Thuban CPU if it cannot be unlocked.

So paint it red!
Re: AMD vs. Intel
And to think I almost sold my XfX 5870 (that is mostly red and black) to try and get a blue Vapor-X model.

He, he... if I was going for a blue PC, I would have gone for the Gigabyte X58-UD7 board and Kingston RAM.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Just to let you all know, I spoke to the AMD representative in South Africa.
Only about 400 AMD Phenom II X6 1090T BE chips are in the country while there seems to be about 600 of the 1050T available.
The 1090T will retail for R3 000 while the 1050T will retail for R2 000
We have a review of the 1090T BE in the June issue and a review of the 1050T in the July issue.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
Thanks for the heads-up!
Re: AMD vs. Intel
AT that price its directly in competition with the i7 920. Now if you tally up the specs the 1090 falls a little short in all areas except for the logical core count. But with turbo and HT on the 920 it more than makes up for it.KillerByte wrote:Just to let you all know, I spoke to the AMD representative in South Africa.

After looking at the synthetic benches of both for a while now on XS and Hwbot i have come to the conclusion that the 1090 is a "fanboy" CPU. Im not bias in any way im just saying that if you intend to OC it you will have to use LN2 every single time where as with the 920 DICE is sufficient to get newer batches to 5.2ghz at which point the 920 blows the 1090 out of the water in 2D. 3D wise the 1090 does not have the lead you would expect from a 6 core CPU. It barely breaks 10k CPU score in 06 and 30k in Vantage at well over 6ghz.
On air its much of the same thing.
BTW one of my mates has a sample of an 1090T and a ASUS CH4 so i will have figures from him soon.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
I just can't see AMD performance surpassing the i7 range anytime soon.
Re: AMD vs. Intel
We'll see with Bulldozer and Bobcat.Mystical_Titan wrote:I just can't see AMD performance surpassing the i7 range anytime soon.

Re: AMD vs. Intel
there is point to be made with the X6... you are getting a 6 core processor for a R3000 rather than Intel's R10k for the 980X.
Yes its not as powerful but at R3k its not a bad chip
