Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
hey guys
thought of something today
i don't enjoy where the switches are but don't want to spray plastic
so i thought i will make an RF remote restart and power switch

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
Hey man really enjoyed this mod! really looks good but as Firestrm stated... sort the paint on those stripes and you'll have a real winner... another thing i noticed is the switch you used for the case LED's... i dont know about the rest of the guys but i've always found those little flip switches to look a tad shabby... an idea would to get a little button and mount it in the same place but stealth it like with the optical drive... then you just push in the corner where that switch is and lights on... will keep semitry on the fan contoller too... just an idea take it leave it...

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
wow thought everyone was over my mod by now
lol i fried the fan controller the other day
so ive scraped it but ill get something else to fit its place
ja im looking at some uv stripes and ill source some leds
im gonna make the whole case uv reactive and stuff
i drew the skullcandy logo on my cpu cooler just for the hang of it but ill post pics soon

thats the etch
if anyone is having trouble viewing them its because they are hosted by bookface

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
The RF switch is a good idea. You can source it from Communica (I don't know how much it will be). I like the etching looks cool. I would suggest you have a look at piezo-electric switches or more commonly known as touch sensitive switches. DJV had a look but those things are a bit expensive. They cost upwards of R300 for 2 depending on where you buy...

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
thanks man will definitely have a look
i still think im going to go full out uv (looks for some uv leds about 50 or so)
will definitely do the stripes with uv paint and have some leds on the outside and maybe the whole underside will have uv reactive paint and will put new uv leds underneath
okay so the things that fried are :
my fan controller
and underside leds
also the ccfls (but using leds anyhow now)
but im putting the mod on hold till my pc is sorted out
thanks to everyone who has helped out so far

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
hey guys
so i need to know does anyone have any ideas on how i can attach the leds to the exterior of the case (so the uv stripes will light up)

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
Now that is a bit of a tough one. What if you attach the LEDs in a small plexi housing at the back top and front bottom of the case and direct the leds to shine up and forwards?

not a bad ideaSamaya wrote:Now that is a bit of a tough one. What if you attach the LEDs in a small plexi housing at the back top and front bottom of the case and direct the leds to shine up and forwards?
lets see if theres a sketchup model of the cm 690 .
the hard part would be the curve at the top of the case
but otherwise i think it will be easy. just need the leds to stay in place. dont want anyone knocking em off by mistake
so i worked out im using 1/4w resistors for a set of 3 leds getting like 50 leds (not atm cuz ive still got major upgrades going on )
i think ill cast them out of casting resin think my uncle can get some

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
okay guys making a sketchup model and ill find somewhere to share it if anyone wants to show me something when im done the dimesnions are farily acurate (not the length exactly but the curves and stuff)

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
so this is what im looking at
(EDIT: links dont work)

(EDIT: links dont work)
and then im getting one of these "270K 5% 1/4 Watt Carbon Film Resistor"LED 5mm Purple400nm W-Clear 250mcd 18deg wrote:This is a LED (light emitting diode). When mounted, the two wire leads usually pass through holes that are drilled in a PCB (printed circuit board). This LED emits UV (ultraviolet) and purple light.

o colour: water clear,
* Light Colour: Purple / Ultraviolet,
* Peak Radiant Emission Wavelength: 400nm,
* Maximum DC Forward Current at 25°C: 30mA,

Solution 0: 2 x 1 array uses 2 LEDs exactly
+12V
The wizard says: In solution 0:
* each 270 ohm resistor dissipates 108 mW
* the wizard says the color code for 270 is red violet brown
* the wizard thinks 1/4W resistors are fine for your application Help
* together, all resistors dissipate 108 mW
* together, the diodes dissipate 140 mW
* total power dissipated by the array is 248 mW
* the array draws current of 20 mA from the source.

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
Dude, you realise that unless you direct the LED's towards the outside surface of the case, they won't do anything. they have a very narrow viewing angle. So how do you plan to mount them externally and still have them shine on the paint?UV light is invisible to human eyes. UV light exposure is harmful to your skin and eyes. Do not use UV LEDs without UV protection. Do not look directly at a powered UV LED!

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
they will be in small housings on the outside and im going to have alot of them the bottom will have like 5 and then there will be a few sets going all the way along the case

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
ya, but my point is, their emmision angle is 18 degrees (9 degrees, each side of the normal to the surface), so if you point them away from the surface, they won't have any effect. you have to shine them on the surface. so how is mounting them in little housings on the surface going to help/work?djwez wrote:they will be in small housings on the outside and im going to have alot of them the bottom will have like 5 and then there will be a few sets going all the way along the case

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
guys heres what ive thought of im going to get el wire because according to http://www.vibelights.com/elwirebyfoot.html and http://www.wisegeek.com/what-are-differ ... l-wire.htm the really thin 2.3mm wire emits uv light and has very little protection so i might get a few meters of blue (as all the colors emit uv) and put it on the top front inside and bottom of my case. i did a sketchup for you guys but i dont have internet and i now dont have a pc. i hope ill be able to be on pcf some time hopefully my dad sorts out the net. and my p2 x3 should be here next week woot woot

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
here are some sketchups of the el wire and switches
the pic of the switches. will only have 5 though ( el wire inside case, on the gt stripes, the underglow , restart and power switch)
this is where the el wire will be hidden
and this is a distant view

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
It will look awesome but you need to make sure the amount of light emitted from the wire will be enough to light up the stripes. Nice idea for the stripe light

im getting 1.2mm wire and it looks like 100 cd/m2 should be enough but i think maybe 2.3 would last longer

Re: cm 690 mod (GT)
okay guys turns out the 5 vandal resistants switches will cost like 900
if anyone can get cheaper i would really like some.
i need 3 momentary and 2 latching (with lumo blue rings)
the momentary ones should be able to handel like 220v the lathcing ones i dont mind as long as its 12v
