3870 X2 or 8800GT sli?
3870 X2 or 8800GT sli?
i have a choice between the 2 and i cant decide, I have read so many reviews.
I have an nvidia chipset (p5n e sli) and i heard that that would make a difference and the ATI card would under perform (not sure if this is true)
anyway, if i could hear some opinions it would be great

Not first hand experience here, but I doubt if an ATI card would under perform just because it is on a NVIDIA chipset. If I was you, I would get the 3870 x2 over 8800GT SLI. Have you checked reviews that compare the 4870 against the 3870 x2 ?
Here is one: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/745/6/
The 4870 is actually a bit faster in crysis and coh, and loads cheaper. Or do you HAVE to choose between the 3870 x2 and the 8800GT SLI?

but he's right... IMHO
Serriously, when nvidia was the "IN" brand everyone was like *YAY*NVIDIA now its *YAY*ATI.... but the truth is nvidia r still FTW! no matter what... lol. i dont care if the 4870 is twice as fast or whatever, the nvidia card is still better . but in this case, 8800GT sli > 3870x2 esp cause he has an nvidia mobo and not using an nvidia card would be a sin, and cause it a know fact that x2 cards (eg 9800gtx2 or 3870x2) are not as good as their sli/crossfire counterparts(9800GTX SLI or 3870 crossfire) check the benchies...
So in this case since the 8800GT > 3870 (check the charts) therefore 8800GT SLI > 3870x2!!!
if you dont belive me...

OMG, what aRobThePyro wrote:LIES!!! (bring proof or its BS! Razz)
See the thing is that board has a nVidia chipset on it( NVIDIA® nForce® 650i SLI™ to be exact), which supports SLI , hell for some time it was seen as the best SLI board around. However that chipset does not support Crossfire. Just like you will have weeks of "fun" trying to get sli to run on a crossfire mobo.
But that all does not matter, the 8800GT is the better card, and when you SLI them they are just amazing ..
The 8800gt SLI combo is the right one. If you had a CF mobo you could have gone HD4850 CF. That 3870 board didn't live up to expectations.

The Radeon HD 3870 X2 does not beat a stock clocked GeForce 8800 GTX right now; it only comes close to its performance level. It took AMD this long to come up with a video card that almost matches a GeForce 8800 GTX in performance and it took two GPUs to do it. That is disconcerting when you consider we are dealing with 640 stream processors on the Radeon HD 3870 X2 versus 128 stream processors on the GeForce 8800 GTX. It really shows how different both GPU architectures are and how worthless comparing specifications has become.

DUDE, a single card x2 will run fine on that board, and thats what he was asking, you worded it like only an nvidia card would work, which is LIES, an single CARD (nt crossfire) WILL workPhReaK_K wrote:OMG, what aRobThePyro wrote:LIES!!! (bring proof or its BS! Razz)
