Some Dry Ice Action

Some Dry Ice Action
I managed to get some Dry Ice action going in the week, here's what happened:

And this is the most frost I got, seems my insulation job was pretty good:
Now for some results:
E8400
E8400 - 5244.36MHz on Dry Ice
E8400 - 4908.5MHz on Air
E8400 - 5000MHz on Air, POST only
E8400 - 9.000s 1M - 5204.8MHz - DDR2-1157 5-5-5-15 on Dry Ice
E8400 - 8.984s 1M - 5220MHz - DDR2-1160 5-5-5-15 on Dry Ice - INVALID
As you can see Windows broke before I could save a CPU-z shot as well.
E8400 - 10.58.2.5s 32M - 5007.5MHz - DDR2-1113 5-5-5-15 on Dry Ice
E6750
E6750 - 4640.17MHz on Dry Ice
Celeron 420
Celeron 420 - 3401.89MHz on Dry Ice
That's the absolute max for the CPU, more volts didn't help one bit. World Record on that CPU is only 3.9GHz though.
Note: You guys have probably noticed that my board is limited to 580FSB sadly. I'm reading up on GTL's to try increase the FSB and then I'll give it another bash.
8800 GTS 512
3D Mark 2001:
89188 - E8400 @ 5104.6MHz on Dry Ice - 8800 GTS 512 @ 810/1100MHz on Air
3D Mark 2005:
28164 - E8400 @ 5007.5MHz on Dry Ice - 8800 GTS 512 @ 800/1166MHz on Stock Air
And then my Dry Ice was finished. I didn't have a lot of time to do more 3D Benchies, but I'll do some reading regarding tweaks and whatnot, and then give it another go.

You could, you'd need to get hold of a cryo cooler. its basically a sterling engine but being driven by an electric motor rather than the engine driving the motor. you can get farily close to 0 kelvin with them.
but i don't know what they cost. hmmm

Reading isnt accurate but it gives u a very good idea of what it is running at, if you look in the wolfdale thread below Wik1d's you will see mine was at -89, it even spiked for about 40seconds at -96 degrees.
I was able to achieve 5.3ghz on my chip, Wik1d board seems to have a FSB wall, or maybe even the cpu its self.
None the less a great set of results.

Yeah that reading is accurate(ish) as Dry Ice's temperature is -78.5C and it was on a stock E6750 with an AWESOME thermalpaste spread (saw it when I took it off, awesome stuff)TheModDoctor wrote:How can a CPU even run at -74*C ??? Do you think that reading is accurate?
Yeah Byron, your temp sensor is definately broken. And it's definately the board that walls, both the E8400 and E6750 walled at 580FSB, I managed to get 5 more out of her yesterday, but it's not good enough.

CPU's sometimes perform better under cooler temperatures, but some refuse to work (Most AMD's have coldbugs). As long as you can prevent anything from shorting and blowing up you should be fine.
