Opinions on RAM

Post by Bonezie »

Hey guys I need some opinions on my RAM choices....

Im looking at getting me a kit of:

4GB(2X2GB) OCZ REAPER HPC PC6400 CL4

or

4GB(2X2GB) Corsair XMS2 PC6400 CL4

I plan on OC.ing so take that into concideration plz.... Do you think its worth the extra $$$ to get higher clocked RAM? The LL RAM should clock well enough wont it? And anyway any RAM above 800Mhz is just factory OC'd isn't it?

This is gonna cost me like R800...

Thanks for any advice!

4gigs usually suck :) I'm guessing you're importing then, look at Mushkin instead. IMO best 4gig kits.

Lol, yeah!

TBH, OCZ isn't THAT overclockable. Funny thing is my Hynix RAM I had before these OC'ed alot higher. I think under those nice shiny XTC spreaders is the cheapest, no-name memory available. Lol.

I agree on Mushkin. Or how about Geil?

No offence Dust - but that's rubbish man... :?

it depends on what OCZ you got... my 1066 Reapers have gone up to 1225 on 2.35v (warranty volts) with 5-5-5-15/16(can't remember)...

although Teams and Crucials are IMHO the next best RAM if not the best, but i still love my Reapers therefore my patriotism to them...

Maybe my FongKong Gigabyte mobo was the suspect. But, the Hynix Ram I had was better at oc'ing than the OCZ's I have now.

System Elites aren't that great, they're the cheaper version of the platinum series, thats probably why they don't clock too well

Yeah guys you should really go read some on the REAPER series before you diss them on here lol... Alot of guys in the US are complaining about the Cruicial they're getting so i dont wana go there now.... Havn't heard any bad things about Mushkin but still... The name!!!! All the Guys who got the OCZ Reapers are very happy with them... But so are the Corsair guys.... OCZ got better ratings from users though.... If u guys wana know how good anything really is, go to Newegg.com and read the reviews..... It's good and helpful info...

I'll reconcider looking at Mushkin though... Their heatspreaders just dont look too good? I might go with Corsair Dominator too... A tad more expensive but way better and great cooling included....

Dude if newegg is so bloody good, go research there and don't ask here. Seriously. You have no respect for the people here's opinions, if you REALLY want to learn something, look at XS, cause then you don't get those stupid americans that battle installing the Ubuntu game's opinion. Gosh seriously.

OCZ memory uses ONLY Micron chips (as does Crucial - the retail division of Micron) so either of these are guaranteed to be pretty good overclockers. Pity that the binnings of the newer Crucial's are a bit dodge compared to the older ones, but still great memory.

I know, it was more aimed at the typical american. Have you read reviews on there dude? I've heard some really dumb things :\

1/5 for having a cooler that's overkill for the ram and only adds to the cost :\

Yeah yeah i appologise.... I do read on tom's hardware etc. too... Just couldn't find too much on mushkin being great OC.ers... It's a bit more expensive too.. So if I buy it I wana be sure it's the best...

Can anyone tell me what the best RAM is you've ever seen OC'ed at low latency and what the clockspeed was?

I buy most of my parts from Eco tech... They aren't bad.... But a bit limmited in what they stock and can get for u...

All Crucial but their new single sided modules suck... I recommend Mushkin for 4gig, or maybe G.Skill, I've seen both get 1100c5.
