shopping cart systems

Hi sry to be a nub, ive made and updated our own small business website for about 3 yrs, i dont know exactly what a shopping cart system is called in "legal" terms so im sry if im just creating more posts for nothing...

anyways, im looking to find out if any1 knows a good free shopping cart system i can download and use with success? Been looking around and rly not sure if any of these ive found are even gonna work =/

Normally with web hosting companies you get a free shopping system, similar to what the main online shops use here

Not 100% sure what its called, all I know its got something to do with php

hmm. my lecturer showed us how to code our own shopping cart in asp.net. We have to use it in our final project to design a website that sells stuff.
