I'll see what the pricing does. If the GX2 drops to around R3500 i'll take that else im gonna try and find two cheap second hand 8800gt's. My 8800GTS still runs most my games just fine.
..... after i see what ATI have up there sleeve.

At the high end, it doesn't scale evenly it's exponential. That's why I've always been a fan of SLI at the mid/high end. 2x8800GT @ R4000 excl >= GTX-280 @ R9000. At R5k - R5,5k it has the advantage of being a single card.
It's always been like that, for that last 20% of performance from a GTX to Ultra or whatever, you pay a 50% price premium. Been like this every generation.
Hopefully ATI can do something to change the current situation, I'm hoping the HD4870 is faster than the GTX-280 but to be honest I'm expecting it to be slower but priced better.

1. Good advice.
2. The architecture hasn't really changed that much, they've just increased the number of functional units. I doubt that there are huge gains to be had from drivers.

Hex_Rated you are the kind of buyer that caused a massive upsurge in the mid value bit of the market. At the high end, it doesn't scale evenly it's exponential. and so am I.
Soon Google will know everything...including how to divide by zero

any idea on when those will release andy?andyddr wrote:We've just dropped the price of the EVGA GTX 280 to R7899.00.
It's the best I can do for now.
Let's hope ATI can release a great card at a good price. That'll drive prices right down.
PS: when can you foresee a decent price drop in the gtx280?

I can't say yet (NDA) but it's soon
We'll probably only see a price drop when the 4870X2 is released although nVidia do at times drop prices within the first two weeks of a product launch.
Problem is the retailers don't always abide to nVidia's rules and will keep a product at the higher price (after all ppl are still buying at that price).

Supposedly the ATI's will be released on the 25th. The 4850 was meant to be released sooner, but ATI kept it beck to release with the 4870, which is due on the 25th. Not sure when it will see our shores though.
Although I'm fairly sure that ATI has won this generation with the amount of people that are pledging to go ATI if their 4850's hold true to the good performance/price ratio

Here are some unofficial bench's, if there is any truth in them I dont know...
I have pretty much decided on the 4870X2 either way, Nvidia can suck it with their pathetic line up and costing model.
