hey man, I also tried linux and it sucks. no offense to you guys that like it. After all the hype it was such a let down, I still havent managed to get my ati's drivers installed and have to use the onboard graphics if i want to get into it. the closest gui to windows from what I have used at work is gnome or kde. I hope that helps.

k goruk... your documentation should have been installed with hte disks... mine is not... i have currently only a few things installed cause the third disk was still being d/lded off the net!

Then your fonts you will find in openoffice

Magic programme, better that word! also try www.mandrakeonline.net
btw, in confiigure your desktop is a place for networks.. have not yet played with that one yet!

goruk... go start - more apps - documentation - kde help.

Have found a lot of info there... jsut cant find regedit :(

and have had the "control panel" but now cannot find it again...
Also play in the "config your desktop". There are a number of places there that will lead you to the net connection and your hardware.

Glad to see someone that is not affraid to take on the unknown. Networking in Linux in different than in windows. Open the controle centre there you will find alot of things you can config including networking and display. PS: remember Linux don't use a registary and most configs is stored in files; so if you don't know what program to use to config something try finding the file that stores that settings. Networking also involves mounting and umounting (there is other approaches though). Good luck.

vv3bcr3atur3 what do you mean by not using a registry... Is that why I cannot find the regedit? So why?

Basicaly windows uses the registary to store certain settings (like the display colours paths ect...). Linux does not do this: every setting is stored in different files. Like the file /etc/fstab holds mounting information that typicaly would be in the registary under windows. Open a terminal and change into your home directory (if you are not already in it) and type:
ls -A
This shows all files. The directories starting with . (dot) most likely contain user spesific settings.

First issue (.tar.bz2): (got this from another forum)
well your going to have to uncompress the file :
tar -jxvf filename.tar.bz2
and then read the README and/or INSTALL file to see what you have to do with it ..
Second issue (.sh.bin UT 2003 Demo): Not sure had the same problem; still don't know how trying to figure out)

Third issue (.run): su to root. now run:
# sh ./the_file_name.run

Try that and please let me know how it went.

Installation
-----------------
tar -xjf baghira.tar.bz2 /*this decompress the file*/
cd baghira/baghira /*this change into the directory it was decompressed to*/
./configure --prefix=`kde-config --prefix` --disable-debug [--enable-final] /*this runs the configure binary that was just decompressed into the above path*/ (!!!BEGINNERS: the direction of the accents is _important_!!! (top-left to bottom-right))
make /*this copiles the dource code*/
and finally as root:
make install /*this compile the source code and install it for all users*/

What messages do you get when you do this?

the_nominator wrote:Please take somemore time to explain the 3rd one

the .run file is an automated shell sctipt. Shell scripts are executed by the sh command (for bash shell scripts). If you want to see what the script is going to do open it in a text editor and examin it. Do you get any error messages if you do this or is there another problem after you execute it? Try searching for all files that have been modified since you run it and see if any of that is what you need.

Typo:  sorry about that (fixed it).

I think it is gnome. Run the gnome shell then right click on the panel. Somewhere should be an option to add a new panel (don't have gnome before me right now). Once you added the pannel rightclick it again and their will be an option to add the clock as well. Not sure about this but I presume you are using KDE. Try gnome once or if you want to go very different go enlightment; if you want compact yet friendly try iceWM.

Well, I could tell ya to RTFM, but I won't.

Temes.tar.bz2 ?
I suppose you mean Themes.tar.bz2, not that it matters.

bzip2 -d Temes.bar.bz2

UT2003 Demo .sh.bin

sh UT2003 Demo .sh.bin

nVidia Linux Drivers .run

chmod 755 nVidia Linux Drivers .run
./nVidia Linux Drivers .run

Or, you could RTFM ...
