Anything & everything regarding Doom 3 and Half-Life 2
Nope... you're thinking of P4 Northwoods. The Prescott's tend to get a little hot when overclocked. Hell, Prescott's run a bit hot all the time anyway!po10cy wrote:Thanks for the advice onlyone, I was thinking of also getting a p4 prescott cpu, I heard they can be overclocked quite extensively.
I suppose if you have a decent HSF then you would be okay.

Lee Mercer (Angel): This is getting ridiculous. The first assassin kills the second assassin sent to kill the first assassin, who didnt assassinate anyone until we hired the second assassin to assassinate her.

That be good for a prescot.
Anways
Game rig will be something like a dual 939 Socket with at least 2GB RAM and 9x80GB SCSI HDD's in a RAID5 configuration. Also looking at getting a decent SoundBlaster card. I am however contemplating on waiting for the dual 6800 GFX configuration but that is truly going to blow my budget as I originally only bugeted for a single. I can get the ECC Reg memory basically for free since I know the ppl to know in that respect. I am busy with the box at the moment so will see when I get my commision I will invest in the rest.

That remains to be proven though.
I want the RAID5 basically for data integrity but it actually slows down disk IO by a certain degree which would soewhat hamper loading times and such. But for raw processing it would be a killer.

Good find, Simmy!
Here's a quote from that article that should put everyone to rest...

For those of you that think you are not going to have the hardware that you need to play DOOM 3, the fact of the matter is that many of you will be just fine, although an upgrade may still be in your future. As of this afternoon we were playing DOOM 3 on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 box with a GeForce 4 MX440 video card and having a surprisingly good gaming experience. Even a subtle jump to an AMD 2500+ with a GeForce 3 video card that is two years old will deliver a solid gaming experience that will let you enjoy the game the way id Software designed it to be. That fact alone should let many of you know that you will not be left behind in experiencing DOOM 3.

Just a quick link to the latest benchmark done for Doom3 using the O.G. game and timedemo, and what cards are going to give you blistering framerates

FPS
On doom you will get about 60 to 70 fps at max detail.
HL2 100 to 120 fps
This is what I think....

Maybe not the best place to submit this, but don't want to open another threat.
Anywho, according to http://www.take2.co.za/product.php?id=6493 , they will sell Doom3 for R 292.
Cool stuff!!!!
