*updated*No OC p5n-32 sli

Post by Mow »

Guys I hope you can help. I have been running the below (sig) clock for a while. Last night I tried pushing it back up to 3.6Ghz and .... Nothing. No matter what voltage I pushed into it ( stopped at 1.55 ), I just could not get it post. The odd thing is I had previously run 3.6 without a problem.

Anyone have a clue on what going on ?

it could be that your are overvolting... and you should be able to unlock your multiplier.... drop the multipier down ramp up the fsb and you should see you can hit 3.6 again...

but.... your cpu is rated for 1066fsb... and your board for 1333fsb... so its def not the board..

wat are your full load temp on your cpu? try running prime95 for a full hour and hwmonitor to watch temps...

Please post your full load and idle temps. If you say you were able to achieve that clock before but now you cant perhaps your pc has gotten dirty. Dust etc trap heat making life uncomfortable. And pushing up those voltages will merely make things worse. See how good your airflow is and then try see if running case open makes a difference. If it does. Now you can start somewhere. If not. Then perhaps you need to just double check your heatsink arrangement. Sometimes the bios in the P5N32~E Sli overvolts the northbridge the moment you try overclock so be careful when playing with those. Lastly. See if loosening your memory timings helps your cause

What about the NB voltage you put that up? I got mine to 3.6 at 1.51v CPU 1.55v FSBT and 1.57v NB

As Furion said loosen those timings and see what happens.

Ok , guys seems that i have a leaky Cap. Spoke to a well respected electrical engineer who confirms the symtoms. Also , there are atleast two other people with this problem.

Yea , no RMA cause its out of warranty. New development though. Its currently running @ 3.6 Ghz. Weird problem , when it finally booted properly it gave like 100 Recovered from a serious error reports. Almost like it was the first succesful boot in a long time. Thing is I have been running it @ 2.4 for a while. Also , the only way i could get it stable is @ 1.55 vcore. In the past it was like 1.475. It still wont boot @ 3.5 though.

Under load im getting 55C ... With water cooling :-(.

Dude , I dont know. The results were just not what I expected. I had the exact same temps on air. All that I would be able to sell , is the pump res and rad. The pipes are cut for my case and will probably be too short for anything bigger than an antec 900. The coolant is used but i can drain it and supply it in a bottle.

well if the price is reasonable then I might be interested, I'd take the pipes if they're not needed

Pretty sure it can't be out of warranty. As far as I know those boards have a 3 year warranty.

Yeah just checked my box and it's a 3 year warranty. They were released in November 2006 if I remember correctly. So your warranty should still be valid.

Firestorm . Your core votage is a bit high for an 8400. Have you tried stepping it down just a notch ? Otherwise it looks sweet dude. :-) Congrats. Just get rid of vista and your sorted.
