USB HDD Help
I just got home with a Hitachi 120GB HDD external drive from work and my PC doesn't want to boot the thing. Some Code 10 error or something. I used it at work and everything was just dandy. My PC specs are as follows: Athlon XP 2600+ CPU
768MB RAM (DDR333)
Radeon 9600XT
300W PSU
Since the external drive relies on the PC's power I'm thinking that maybe my PSU can't handle it? What do you guys think?

I don't think that he wants to actually BOOT from it; he just wants the PC to recognise it. Just poorly worded.g0ldback wrote:Have you made sure that your PC is compatible to boot from a USB device?
Might have to update the BIOS
On the other hand, I could be wrong, in which case I will return to the cosy spot beneath yonder rock whence I came.

the fact that the drive isn't independantly powered, drawing its power from the USB hub, - code 10 is an outright mount fail, so it is not unlikley that the PSU could be at fault...AliasMidori wrote: the external drive relies on the PC's power
@AliasMidori: this could also be an IRQ conflict issue... any other USB devices attached?
