Getting Linux, which is the best one?
Getting Linux, which is the best one?
Shalom
I am wanting to create a partition on my HD , well dont have much space ... and I use XP since i do my artwork in XP, and many other things..
But when ever I use Linux its off a live CD,.
I am considering getting a large hard drive about 100GB or so , and transfere my XP there and also have a partition for Linux.
Which is the best Linux to have and to use?
"i got some advice from a freind that i most likely get work having more knowledge in doing C in linux" so i need to practice this...
Love and hugs

I once trid installing Ubuntu on a client of mines' laptop (Mecer). It hangs on installation. Suse works a treat on the lappy though.
Personally I can't for the life of me see why some people prefer Ubuntu, and what makes them think it's "easy to use". I have used many distros over the years, and Suse is by far the best in my opinion.
Here's a list of distros I have used: (in no particular order)
KnoppMyth
Mandriva 2005
Fedora Core 4
Suse 10.1
Red Hat 9.1
Ubuntu 4.10
Ubuntu 6.05
Kubuntu 7.10
Suse 10.3 (currently installed)
And a few others I can not remember.

I used to have Ubuntu on my notebook as well. XP's power management is far superior.
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.
Thanks ((^_^)) hmm i will tally up the best responce ... but so far it seems to be Ubuntu...i have used the live CD but was not impressed... but Ubuntu has one advantage i noticed... it does not requrie to much of your hard drive, but Suse which i have and dont have a live CD , asks for to much space...which means I have to get a bigger hard drive.
Thanks

I'm still waiting.........lolg0ldback wrote:I can agree with DAE there, Ubuntu is definately the easiest distro to use. I've been playing around with PCLinuxOS, which is also VERY easy.
Gonna be posting up a mini review thing later today on PCLinuxOS
PCLinuxOS hasn't been updated in a long time, hmm....

Yip. I can answer you on that one. I'm using ubuntu gutsy version on my laptop, ok power management for me. They use to have some trouble with power management in linux, but they changed the kernel a bit, so it's a lot better now.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:QFT.ryanrich wrote:Ubuntu gives me endless issues on my laptop, with things like it's poor power management... O', and by the way, Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy is due in 2 days from now, (according to distrowatch).
Watch out for that one, I think it's going to be a pretty good system to boast about .

I use Suse 10.3 64bit edition. I heart Suse.
It's one of the nicest looking versions of Linux (which is saying a lot as they all look nice) and has tons of useful features that get installed straight off the bat.
eg:
IP scanner, Flash player, Adobe reader, open office, DVD player, mp3 players, a few browsers and so on.
Who needs Aero?Cube desktop ftw!
