Deleting faces in Maya 8 question

Hey guys, been working on Maya 8 (working thru the Intruducing Maya 8 ) and not exactly sure how to do the following, so if anybody can help, I'll appreciate it!

I need to make a window or hole in a wall. If I use faces and delete them, I get a hole in the wall but then you can sort of see inside the wall becuase the side faces aren't there becuase I just deleted the front face....does that make sense?

I have attached a pic and surrounded the parts in question in red to try and explain.

u need to select those faces around the hole and extrude them inwards so it creates that thickness and it wont be paper thin like wot u got now.

thanks! Got working by using the "edit mash - Append to poly tool!" in the polygon view.
