You have a virus my friend.

Get yourself an Anti-Virus, update it all the way and do a full system scan.

Also, scan all your USB drives and external HDD's as the virus spreads via removable drives...

Check for a program called disk fix or something along those lines.

That, or google for "Hidden Files Virus Registry" and it will explain how to fix. There are 2 settings in the registry you have to change to gain fix the problem...

Hmmm. Just a guess but it might be a confuzzed windows not logging the change in the specific log file.

My advice-Repair windows. That usually sorts out dodge files.

Any other ideas?
EDIT:
Yep a virus could do that easily. hide it's self from being seen and deleted.

this is cause of some virus...

I had to help some1 previously with same issue and what the solution was, was that we did an edit on one of the registry items...

although he ended up not having any of the registry entries needed, I simply made him a backup of that specific registry entry and he applied it to his and it worked...

first try running spyware removal and do a virus check...

Yip. Fixing without removing the virus will solve the issue for 0.00001 seconds...

AntiVirus is a MUST in this day and age... LEARN from it...

AVG has a free antivirus you can download and use. Not the worlds best, but it IS free and small to update...

Get a 3rd party firewall while your at it-That blocks alot of attacks from everything. (my lecturer can hack the XP firewall pretty quickly so try avoid it)

Also run tea-timer by Spybot S and D which blocks registry editing by anything unless I say yes.

AVG is fine.

Norton should pick it up as well if it is fully updated. No AV will help if no updates are installed though...

a quote followed the previous time:
If anyone’s still having trouble, here’s a fix that worked for me after I got the RavMon virus:

1. Click “Start” -> “Run…” (or press Windows key + R)
2. Type “regedit” and click “Ok”.
3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
4. Look at the “CheckedValue” key… This should be a DWORD key. If it isn’t, delete the key.
5. Create a new key called “CheckedValue” as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
6. The “Show hidden files & folders” check box should now work normally

Yip, that is the virus...

Use Windows Explorer, not My Computer

You have to download that disk fix app I mentioned to fix that. You just put in drive letter, click ok and restart and it works again..

Small, free app it was...

Disk Heal it was called...

LOL these viruses.

I dont understand it, Why do they make these stupid things !!!!!

If i had to create a virus i would've done what this virus has done then remove all permissions on the registry key created including the admin and system and only leave read only.

on HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
DWORD NoFolderOptions = 1

That way its almost impossible to repair.
