TinyXP, anyone use it?

Post by DarkStar »

Heya, people.

I stumbled across TinyXP (a friend mentioned it).

I've downloaded the Beast edition, and I'm using it on a VM just to test it out.

I just want to know, does anyone else here use it? What are your opinions of it?

So far, what I've noticed is that it installs in minutes, uses only 400MB of HDD space, and only 50MB of RAM is used. It's blazingly fast.

I haven't had a proper chance to test it out with all my apps. The only thing I know about the Beast Edition, is that Office won't work on it (which is bad for me) because of no Jet Database.

So, let's here it from you guys?

That's the problem, there's no central link for TinyXP.

There's only info on some site about it. Here's a few links
http://www.secguru.com/link/tinyxp_run_ ... r_40mb_ram
http://forums.prophecy.co.za/f76/window ... ion-24547/

Hope it helps.

(Btw, I d/l'ed it through a torrent)

Downloading the ISO would be illegal.

A guide on how to tweak your copy would seem fine.

What if you already own a legal copy of XP? The only way I can see that it's illegal is if you don't own a copy of XP, and if you use it on more than one machine.

*EDIT*
I forgot to mention, the entire ISO was made with nLite (as far as I've gathered)

The way i see it, if you have a LEGAL copy of XP, there's nothing wrong with installing someone ELSE's XP on your machine. You own the right to USE A copy of XP.

But you also may not modify the software in anyway, which is what someone has done.

Geez guys, internet arguments...

I phoned microsoft the other day, and asked them if I can install someone elses XP on my machine because he used nLite so that the install will automatically have all the updates as well, and they said it's fine. I can install any style of XP Pro as long as I have a legit copy AND I don't have more than one machine with XP.

Yes that's true, but i tend not to really care about that because i've paid for the OS. By modding it the way i do, i only make it nicer and more functional, i don't cost anyone a cent by modding it, and there's nothing morally wrong with it either. :)

DJV --> I agree with you (this is why I am all for open-source). Unfortunately, the EULA states that its wrong.

People, TinyXP is only really useful if you've got like less than 512MB of RAM, or are running a POS system.

It gave me quite a bit of troubles, so I abandoned it and went to Vista.

As a too to gain some knoweledge and just to "play around with" I think it's cool, and I agree with both sides of the story about it being legit: EULA -> NO! Owning it and making no money from it/stuffin someone over -> YES!

:)

I actually have a mini98 somewhere, works cool, bit it's very finnicky...
