Flash drive dead?

Post by Sans »

Hi all

Please help, last night I loaded some files on my flash drive(Sony 2GB), safely remove it and when I got to work today the flash drive doesnt work...

When I insect it into the PC it shows the little green arrow thingie next to the clock and I see it on 'My Computer' but double clicking on it, it just says 'Please insert a disk into drive E:' The name of the flash drive has also changed from 'SONY' to 'Removable Disk'.

 Did my flash die over night?

Don't think so... flash drives are pretty durable AFAIK. Maybe something is up with the drivers?

eish. hmmmmm, ok im at a loss. can you view the properties of it when you plug it into a pc? Sounds like it just might be a damaged flashdisk. Did u drop it or spill liquids on it or something like that?

Had the problem before too. Three possible reasons:

1. Different operating systems - XP and 2000 not always compatible
2. The USB port you are using is too old for the flash and does not see it (knows that there is something in it - just cannot see it)
3. If it is also a digital player, then using the right click safely remove feature can mess it up. Happens to mine. I just pull it out to remove and it works perfectly - if I do it correctly then I cannot get other machines to see it and it won't switch on.

Usually it is the USB port. Try another machine an it will likely work.

I have had the The same problem with my 2GIG Meccer Flash drive
I used the software on the disk and was able to Salvage just under
1GiG or you can try the Normal dos Format , Took me about 3 days just
to get it to that point.
