read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 18 hours.

Got to be the best HP book ever. I can't wait to be dissapointed by the movie.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.

hairy porter does not qualify as "reading"... roughly equatable to eating salted liqourice or stale marzipan, but not reading..

almost as bad as wilbur smith..

Tell that to all the moms who are so glad that their kids are finally reading something other than PC and Gaming magazines. My son reads a lot and he is really enjoying this book.

I can't wait for him to be done so I can read it. She is an excellent author.

   I still disagree with you. I find her use imagery impressive and her books are easy to read.

Tell me, have you ever read one of her books or is it the subject matter that has coloured your perception? And another thing you need to bear in mind - it is aimed at teenagers - so needs to be classed with Enid Blyton and Frank W Dickson. Not with adult oriented authors like Dan Brown, Stephen King, Raymond E Feist etc.

tried twice... failed to even begin to get drawn in. her style is contrived and halting... i will not try again. the boss says i'm anti-popular fiction... :D

8O again!... you wish to see me have a breakdown?.. dan brown is only marginally better than wilbur smith... by the tiniest of margins... and then to group him with stephen king and master feist!...

the horror! was that a little overdramatic?...

am about to finish reading Lord of the Rings trilogy for the first time.

not impressed at all.

not even one bit.

I can honestly say the movies were better.

except for the director turning frodo into a pansy, that sucked, frodo was a legend in the book, not some sniveling doe eyed batty man...

Why do you say that? Have you read Frank Herbert or Simon R.Green.What about Michael Crichton who wrote Jurassic Park? They were very good.

Was it the original book that you read? I liked the first one and finished the last one.

Disagreeing with each other is our thing

I loved the book, personal taste I'm sure, but art is a subjective thing.

Rusty and you make it sound as if you can find out if it's good or not by testing it scientifically

Okay, okay I'm gone :)

And here - in this statement - lies your problem. For you not to like Tolkien, means you have no interest in the subject matter. You, pup, are biased. Your opinion of authors is coloured by your interest in the subject covered. Tolkien is one of the better authors of our time - and that is not my humble opinion - but that of many learned and esteemed individuals. The above comment shows you have no interest in the fantastical, the magical or the imaginative. For that reason, I cannot take your comment on JK Rowling seriously. :D

On JK Rowling: You're EVIL! I love Potter, sure all the idiots love it too, but it really is good!

On Wilbur Smith:

Ah... we finally agree on something. I LOVE you! now that was overdramatic ;)

He writes wersterns - about cowboys. My dad and grand dad - and I, have read almost all of them. The only one I really remember was Hanging Woman Creek. The rest are a blur as it is not my taste - but he writes well, - if you don't want to think.

James Patterson? Not too shabby author.
Dean Koontz is also good...or some of his work.

He is a South African who changes wives once a year  I personally don't like his stuff but since I've only read about a three chapters of his work and don't like cowboys, better ask Tribble instead ;) BTW I think 7habits is about R150 at CNA, but if you get it make sure it's "The seven habits of highly effective people" and not the workbook or some spin-off. (like seven habits of highly effective teens and living the seven habits)

Thats him. Nice books. Also there is this guy that wrote Act of war. He was a member of the airforce or something in America. The book is quite interesting. Almost finished it.

If you like fantasy, ignore Tolkien and try Magician by Raymond E. Feist.
If you like it..the whole saga stretches over 7 books I think.

The more to read the better. Maybe I ask my mom or dad to get me a chess book for my birthday and I choose a few reading books.

@ Tribble Wilbur Smith does not write westerns. The book "Hanging woman creek" is written either by Louis L'amour or J.T Edson. Wilbur Smith Writes books centralizing on Africa and i Have read all Except the newest which is called "The Quest"

I can forgive you on that seeing as it takes a very strong person to be able to get through a "Tolkein" book, I personally can't, I prefer Feist and Eddings as they don't waffle on 10 pages describing a scenery.
