Dammit, just had my first BSOD. I needed to format (new HDD) and it all went well. Then when it was at my desktop for the first time, i plugged in my G15 and a network cable, and BAM!!! BSOD.

Sucks...

It was bound to happen sooner or later.....

My laptop (running XPSP2) BSOD's at least once a month. My wife's machine (XPSP2) never BSOD's......but she doesn't run it 24/7.

For the first month I ran Vista on my PC it was on 24/7. Now my girlfriend uses that PC for her graphic design stuff, but it's still on most of the time...

My laptop is on almost all the time as well, and so far not a single issue. I must say Vista seems to run much better on my laptop than on the PC which is an Opteron 170 @ 2.5GHz with 2GB RAM.

I read a couple of the pages from this thread but cannot find a suitable answer that justifies my question.

I'll ask it again since its a couple months down the road from when vista was brought out.

Im planning on switching over to Vista Ultimate this week, do I go with 32 bit or 64 bit?

I dont want to have tons of software compatibility problems like Windows XP 64 bit gave me.

Also, what is the performance difference between 32bit & 64bit ?

And how many of you guys using 64bit now?

my brother uses Vista at work, he hates it. Programs simply disappear...

Does anyone know of a program to automatically install Vista updates and hotfixes that I have downloaded manually on a different machine ?

I have read about slipstream using nlite but that is to create a complete new installation DVD and not for updates alone.

I just got a new laptop, a HP Pavilion with Vista preloaded.
It was not a concern when I purchased because I thought i could just load my existing XP onto it.
I am now told there are no drivers available for this HP laptop and when you download drivers from the website for xp they don't work.
PS. laptop came without any software CD's etc. Instructions say you must make a vista restore file from the system for any future restores.
Any comments.

I want to do the same, I'm also looking for an application that can install updates that I've downloaded from another machine.

This is because my main pc with Vista (which is installing atm :P ) doesn't have internet :(

Use HP Backup and recovery manager to create your restore cd. This should be insatlled on your HP Laptop.

That's it exactly.
I download the updates at work and then take them home to install on my pc.
I have re-installed Vista recenlty and now have about 70 updates. It is a really a long process to install 1 update at a time.

With all the gimicks and twice the number of services the system resource demand is horrid. On my old P4 3.0GHz with 512MB RAM and a FX5200 normal Xvid and MPEG2 videos lag a bit, not to speak of anything slower than 3.0GHz. I believe buying new hardware merely to suite an operating system is insane.

Its the 512MB RAM. Vista needs a minimum of 1GB but id say 1.5GB - 2GB to work properly :P
