Buying a R10 000 gaming system
I'm looking to buy a gaming PC in the range R10 000 - R12 000 excluding peripherals, e.g. monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.
I've never had to buy a PC before . I just want to know where's the best place to start looking.
I want a good graphics card and 2 megs of ram. It doesn't matter if the machine is an AMD- or Intel- based PC.
I've seen some good ads from Ragetech, are their systems any good?

I'd suggest checking out http://www.sybaritic.co.za, and picking out the parts that you want from there. Their prices are very decent, and in my experience their service has been great.

OK, lets see, 12K....
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4GHz - about R 2100 incl
BioStar TForce 965PT - about R 1200 incl
2 GB Team Elite DDR2-800 - about R 1300 incl
XFX 8800GTS 640MB XXX Edition - about R 4500 incl
320 GB Seagate SATA Drive - about R 800 incl
antec NEO HE 500w EPS12V , SLi certrified - about R 1200 incl
This comes up to about: R 11100.00 excl shipping.
then the only thing you'll still have to buy is a case, and you got about R900 spare for that.

Make the GFX a 320MB and the PSU an iOmega 6XXW PSU and you've saved a few bucks.DarkRanger wrote:Please tell me this is a typo...KeybotUltra wrote:2 megs of ram

I stay in Cape Town, so no luck there.DarkRanger wrote:Where do you stay? Because I can buy and build it for you if you stay in PTA.
Also, I just found out that The Prophecy Shop (http://www.prophecy.co.za/) offers some of the same products as Sybaritic but at a cheaper price. I'm just not sure if they have a system building service.

640 is actually more useful if he's going to game on that 22".
Thats why I found myself upgrading from GTS 320mb to GTX, so that the higher resolutions (the screens native) are playable (high FPS all the time)with all the extra goodies enabled.
