I had a chat to my friend in Kentucky who is a Scientology Councilor - he said much of the article is warped....
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

No, Scientology is just old promises in a new wrapping.
God is now an aliens race.
Heaven is their home planet.
And you still have to give your time & money in order to achieve nirvana.
There are plenty of things that Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists believe that simply cannot be true according to modern science - so why is Scientology labeled nonsense by all of them
Just because it is the new kid on the block?
Im not going to judge these people, even though is all sounds very dodgy to me, all this secrecy stuff is unncecessary, but what I will say is that I can forsee a Dan Brown book and a movie starring Tom Hanks

I'm sorry, what? While I'm not arguing that a lot of religions haven't been twisted by the less scrupulous parts of our society, none of the "old" religions started out as a money making scheme. Scietology, from the get-go, rewards you if you pay enough. And by "rewards" I mean, gives you a new title, you reach a new "level" and apparently get super-powers (which increase according to your "spending").jamin_za wrote:Nothing, unfortunately, care to hook a brother uplancelot wrote:What are you smoking my man?

That's not christiantiy, judaism, islam or whatever. That's ****ed up.
Also, the old religions can at least draw back on the ignorance of a medieval and sometimes prehistoric people with no idea of "science" or "logic". They didn't know better back then, we do. Scientology doesn't have that excuse.

You must watch a series on religion and science by a guy called Walter Vaith, who obtained a science degree at UCT, now tours the world preaching. He validates so many obscurities relating religion and science it's scary. He's been put in prison before in the US for being a menace to society, because he's unveiled many of the inner working of the free mason s in the US government. (He was a 33rd degree free-mason before he converted).jamin_za wrote:Nothing, unfortunately, care to hook a brother uplancelot wrote:What are you smoking my man?

He is a zoologist and AFAIK has no professional theological training, and I have never heard of him being part of the freemasons or incarcerated.
Also, IIRC his work often relies on very unconventional interpretations of the book of Revelations, and alot of what he says is dismissed both by major churches and his fellow scientists.
Please point me towards the series you spoke of.

So it's okay for older religions to be unscientific because they were around before modern science? Gad zooks!
And also, just because modern science disagrees with many religious ideals, does that mean most people today side with science?
The majority of people today still choose to believe their respective religious literature over science. So tell me again, why should I give your argument any merit
Perhaps you should read up on the Roman Catholic Church - not only were/are they a money racket but they also tried to keep information and literacy from the people so that they could manage the people according to their liking.Squirly wrote: While I'm not arguing that a lot of religions haven't been twisted by the less scrupulous parts of our society, none of the "old" religions started out as a money making scheme.

I remember from my (boarding) school days, whenever the weekly Sunday evening chapel service was canceled, for whatever reason, they still took damn collection! How **** ridiculous. Once the power went out 5 minutes into the service, the chaplain stopped the service, but still managed to pass the collection plates around before we left!
No, that's not what I'm saying. But it does explain and justify their existance a bit more than scientology's.jamin_za wrote: So it's okay for older religions to be unscientific because they were around before modern science? Gad zooks!
Because a lot of people believe science, but also believe in their respective religion, they just take it for what it is - not a literal account, necessarily, but stories and allegories to help you through life. Common sense does actually exist.jamin_za wrote: And also, just because modern science disagrees with many religious ideals, does that mean most people today side with science?

Where is the common sense in alien souls? Alien souls that cause our fears and doubts no less. Especially here, at the turn of the friggin' 21st century?
