darn, just had to wait a month longer to upgrade - got the n91 on a procall 120 for R385 per month 8O . though the n91 is not so bad after all, its got 4gig of onboard space (can load almost 3000 song onto it) & also got the n70 - not a bad phone at all. :D

IMO MTN is better than CellC anyway, plus with CellC you don't have 3G access as far as I know.

Hey

Bought my starter pack yesterday. Withing a few minutes I had all my settings. I ported my vodacom number just a few hours ago and it should be done by Tuesday. Their service is very good.

Don't know if anyone will read this in here...but let's try this way first...

Cellphone repair

Can anyone recomend a good place in JHB (randburg preferably) that repairs cellphones? Nokia in midrand used to have a two hour repair time, but they've ditched that and it can take up to three weeks to hear back from them. You cannot call them at all, and the so called live repair status site does not even have a record of the phone when I've used them before. As midrand is way out of the way, and there is now no advantage to going out there.

Prefereably I would not like to pay a huge markup for smeone else just to send it to Nokia, nor would I like to wait three weeks just to get a quote.
What's happened to Nokia in SA??

Any recomendations?

Secondly, does Vodacom offer any cheaper data bundles on pay-as-you-go? R2/MB stinks big time!

No matter where you go you gonna have to wait. Exact mobile was the biggest high level repair centre in South africa for Nokia which closed down last month. Now all of south africa's repair centres are in massive backlogs.

I was wondering if there is anyway to disable my Nokia N70 swapping from GPRS to 3G every time i move into a 3G enabled area. Most here are bad and my connection slows down a lot. I use Mxit and it sometimes just disconnects when i switch. I just want to disable it, and use GPRS. Any way to do that?

Check somewhere in your network settings for GSM only and select it. In this mode it will only work on the 900/1800 mhz and will not try to connect to the 2100mhz(3g) signal.

Unfortunately not. You can only pick between

1) GSM
2) GPRS & 3G

Faulty phone or dodgy GPRS service?

Post by Xiphan »

Has anyone had the following problem: when using my cellphone to connect to GPRS on my PC, it will connect and send packets out but get noting back (maxes out at receiving 240 bytes). Other times it will connect and I will be able to surf for a while, then all of a sudden the connection will lock. I will not receive anything more and I'll have to switch my phone off then on again to reset it or to get my GPRS working again? Very strange...

I have a SonyEricsson K750i branded with the most useless firmware ever (Vodafone).
And this problem happens with both a Vodacom and Virgin SIM card, more so with the Vodacom SIM than the Virgin one though.
