advice needed

Post by stefan9 »

Ok. I have this problem in games my pc's screen just goes black and then I have to restart its still under warranty but my dad last the proof so I expected I will have to pay. Now I suspected its the graphics card which is the problem. This system has a geforce 4 ti 4800 se currently. I need to know whcih cards are equivalent or better than this card. I don't want to get a card thats worse than the one I already have.
My pc: atlon xp 2200+, geforce 4 ti 4800 pr, 1 gig ddr ram, 80 gig h/d, win xp home.

What monitor do you have. A common problem is that some monitors cant handle high resolutions or refreshrates, and the games are preset. So they just go black.

What games do this, dont say "all of them", name them.

I have a samsung sync master 17 inch. It happens in all games but half life. It even happens in fifa 2004. Some games it takes longer to happen but in most it happens. It happens in quake 3,medal of honour allied assault, morrow wind, unreal tournament, unreal 2, war craft 3. Only games it doesn't happen in is lion heart and nwn and half life. It even happens in demo's.

Then you have the same problem as one of my friends had. We are still trying to fix it. We suspect it is the graphics card.

Put another graphcard in your PC and see if the problem persists.

Stefan, check your refresh rate.

If seen that default normally 75mhz and had some problems with the screen not been able to handle it, set it to 60mhz and try it again

I'm going out on a limb here.I believe it has very little to do with hardware and more to do with software.

Download your self a directX uninstaller and remove DX.Re-install DX.
Should solve your problem.Or you need to format and re-install ever thing.

Since your screen locks up you might have overclocked your GPU or CPU speeds too much. Set all windows settings to default.
Check you refresh rates. Default that too.

To Pino
But what if u want to play games now!
Maybe we must settle with a Radeon 9800 XT

Try older driver 4 the card, know it sounds strange but try it.

Have to agree with wizardofid, I feel it is more of a Software issue, as he said try re-installing DX...
