The color range selection only lets you select a certain color range. Its got nothing to do with altering the image. To edit those kinds of things, go to image-adjust and look around there. Curves, levels, brightness/contrast, color balance, etc.

Look PC, you can only do so much with a photo OK, if it is poor to start off with one can enhance it a bit but not to pristine glory! Email me the pic to locate@radiodetection.co.za andI will do it for you, then explain how.

What I34z1k said should work for you. You'll need to work with the red colour channel to get the preview you're looking at. Another option would be to go to the channels window, remove all channels except for red, an then Grayscale the image.
