Post your overclocking projects here

Post by Colin_69 »

If there is a thread like this, then please remove this one.

I can see that there are many people here asking help on overclocking and many of you are getting very good results. The SA overclocking Championships thread made me want to create this one. So post your results here, with CPU-Z screens etc. Tell us what cooling you are using, your temps, voltages etc etc, and help each other pushing their pcs further.

Im getting a 4400+ soon (hopefully today), I hope to get it at 3GHZ at least.

So post your OC projects here and let us make OC big in SA!

I've been messing around this morning to see what my system can do. Here are my specs
AMD 64 bit s939 3200+ (Stock 200*10)
Asus A8V Deluxe
Corsair ValueSelect DDR400 2*512MB

The highest speed I could get was 2.7GHZ (270*10) but running a divider on the memory (225MHz or 450MHz DDR, timings 3,3,3,8)

I could also run the memory at 246MHz at this speed

Normally I run the system @ 2.4GHZ (240*10) with the memory at 200MHz (400DDR). I've been trying to get the memory to work with a 1:1 ratio, i.e. 240MHz. But this won't even boot into windows.

Now as stated previously, I have run this memory @ 246Mhz with the CPU at 2.7GHz

Can anyone explain this?

P.S. this was all on stock cooling and voltages. I will slap on my Zalman CNPS 7000 AlCu cooler and see if it makes a difference

No idea. I never overclocked that high with that board.

I do miss it though. That was easiest board ever to overclock with.

When overclocking everyone get different results. i.e. When I run my CPU @ 300*9 I cant put my MEM on 200MHZ(DDR400) I have to overclock my MEM too.

Some memory and motherboards just have conflicts with certain deviders and FSB, I dont know why. Getting the max out of your pc is all about MANY MANY restarts and resetting the bios a few times. SO when windows doesnt boot its either that your timings are too tight or u need to change the FSB & Devider

I suppose some proper memory wouldn't hurt.

And that board is really easy to overclock with, as its previous owner has said.

I've got a 3800+ AMD 64bit. Overclocked it a while ago and reached the 3GHz mark (Normally runs at 2.4GHz!!) and the temps were about... 64 degrees under load. I know, it's kinda high. That was on stock cooling. My memory was running at DDR416 (208MHz).

Then Friday I bought myself a ZALMAN cooler, and then it didn't want to load Windows!?! It starts up perfectly and then bombs when it loads windows! WTF?? So I reset everything, and it worked fine...

Now I want to know what is the problem on with my PC... Why does it run OC'ed on stock air cooling, but doesn't boot with the ZALMAN cooler?

And I don't understand the whole RAM timings thing... I'm a total newbie when it comes to overclocking.

My system used to do that, would work fine and then the OC setting wouldnt work. The prob disapeared when I got my OCZ though. The problem isnt the cooler. Its funny, another member, Doobs, got the same problem when he got new cooling for his CPU, kinda weird. He uses the same mobo as you.

He got his problems sorted out after a while though. Give it some time and overclock your system bit by bit.

RAM timings, this is the easiest way to say it, there is 4 main types of timings, CAS-tRCD-tRP-tRAS i.e. mine 2.5 3 3 7, @ stock they are 2 3 2 5, so the higher your DDR speeds, the higher these timings need to be, when the timings are to high, windows wont boot, or you will get random restarts.
