Temperatures

Post by quik1 »

I would like to find out if there is any normal operating temps for computer hardware.

I use hardware monitor to monitor my temperatures - M/Board (Albatron PX865pe7 pro) always about 42c - CPU (Intel P4 3.0ghz EM64t) 38c and HDD (seagate 160G SATA) 30c

In case you wondering the c is for degres celcius!

Is these temperatures normal or should I do something about it.

I have a Chenbro gamebomb case with 2 X 80mm fans. :?:

30'C actually seems a bit low for a hdd, norm is usually between 35'C to 45'C depending on number of platters and what type of cooling is present.

You go find max operating temps on Intel's and Seagate's websites for peace of mind. :)

Otherwise, all seems good.

That's what i was thinking hey. Right now i have 2 hard disks that are completely external. I mean like lying outside my case with cables plugged in, and they're at 38'.

As for the question at hand, don't worry dude, as everyone else has said, those temps are just fine. :D

Temps are sweet. My oc goes up to 47 *C on stock. As for HDD, mine and yours are about the same.

Is 38 degrees C whilst not doing anything more taxing than displaying the Windows Desktop normal for an Athlon64 X2 4200?

Yes. Shouldn't exceed 50C when you stress the CPU.

This is a myth. Those cpu's are designed to run 60+ for their whole life, without issues. 60-65 deg C not uncommon for those cpus, but I anyway believe the temp on this one is off.....full-load should be 52-57 on aircooling, and 22-25deg C ambient.

Most of these boards unfortunately don't reflect the correct temp, as none is individually calibrated for a specific specimen.

So yeah, I always regard temps with a pinch of salt, and rather work on throttling/stability as an indicator.

My friends 3 Ghz P4 E (emulated 64) runs at about 60 degc, so your fine.

My oc'd 3000+ is overclocked from 1.8 Ghz to 2.4 Ghz and runs at about 40 deg c BTW. Though they are suppose to run cool, any temp above 55 deg c is damaging to the A64 Venice Cores.

My 3.0GHz HT-tech PC runs at about 44C at idle, up to 52-55 at a stress level. I've installed a Blowhole in the side with a Zalman 120mm fan. Red LED's... oooo.

So yeah, those are lekker low temps.

Won't it prolong the life of your motherboard to run it at a lower temperature? It doesn't matter though, avid gamers upgrade every 12-18 months anyway to have peak performance, just a interesting question...

those temps are normal. my amd 3500+ runs at about the same temp stock standard and noiseless! :o). you shouldnt worry about the life of your components if your'e not overclocking.

My old Thunderbird 1.2Ghz idled at 65deg and load was about 75deg. Took 4 years before it died because of the cheap thermal paste that sheared the die into 2 when I tried to get the crap heatsink off and install something better.

When I sold my 1ghz thunderbird after 6 years it was running 100%

That after 6 years of 70 degrees all the time.

Those chips rocked.

Is my P4 630 the only Prescott that runs so cool?

Idles at 28-30 degrees celcius and loads at 40-45....never goes over 45! And its overclocked to 3.6Ghz with the stock cooler. HD never goes > 29 degrees celcius.

And no, my BIOS is not inaccurate, I am using physical temperature probes to check my temps.

Yeah even the Durons werent that bad.... so easy to overclock.
The 1.2Ghz Duron(morgan) didnt perform quite as nice as my thunderbird 1.2Ghz... so I overclocked it to just under 1.6Ghz which ran about the same as my 1.2Ghz Thunderbird.

All cores can theoretically handle up to 100 degrees, the limiting factor is the silicon itself that starts kuking after 100 degrees. As Mr Bean said there is no point to worrie about temps (like some people who have a boeing engine fan cooling their rigs - rediculous!) the stability of the system gives a far more accurate indication if there are problems. Obviously if you're overclocking there will be some more heat generated and a better cooling device is maybe necessary, but I would worry if my CPU is below 75 degrees.

my 630 idles at 26-28 and loads at 45 after 3 hours of Super Pi, and another 3 hours of 3dmark2005 looped.

Thats with a Zalman CNPS7700 CuAl, spinning at 1800rpm and with artic silver 5 on the chip.
What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.
