You are very much mistaking...capanno wrote:The only 4th generation plane in service if im not mistaking.
Aircraft classified as fourth generation jet fighters are those in service approximately from 1980-2010. Representative fighters include the "teen" series of American fighters (F-14, F-15, F-16, and F/A-18 ) and the Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27. (Got that off wiki )
Nice plane!
And yes, in a dogfight an F16 would have a hard time keeping up with a Gripen because the Gripen is smaller and more manuverable.
But modern F16's are multirole planes, and as such carry longer ranged weapons, and have wider radar detection areas than Gripens.
IMO in a 1v1 match your Gripen would get raped by the F22 (America), Su30 (Russia) and Eurofighter (Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK)capanno wrote:Id take on any plane with a Gripen. (talking about planes in service)

Wel my bad then. Had the wrong info it seems.jamin_za wrote:You are very much mistaking...

Im very sceptical about the F22. Firstly, its taken forever to build. Project almost shut down. 1st Prototype after 10 (waits to be corrected) years crashed after a few seconds after takeoff. hmmm... Im not sure its even that menouverable. Yes its technologically superior and carries a moer load of weapons, but I doubt it will beat a gripen 1-1 in close quarters.
i dont know much about the new mig (29 is it?). what I hear its already better than the raptor.
Believe what I say. **** Chuck Norris. Im Rick James biatch.

What you are hearing is is utter balls, sir
The F22 is the most advanced multi-role air superiority fighter in the world.
The Gripen is a good plane, but a raptor would blow it out of the sky. Before it even knew there was a raptor nearby!
1v1, the F22 would NEVER have to engage a Gripen at close quarters. It has the ability to destroy several Gripens in BVR combat.
Even if they did engage in WVR comabt, the Gripens maneuverability in a dogfight would be mostly negated by the thrust vectoring on the bigger F22.
Against F16's and F18's the Gripen wins hands down, but it is outclassed by the F22 IMO.
The F-35A will also whip the Gripens butt methinks, but there is not enough info on this plane available to the public yet for me to really argue that.
Also, WRT the length of the F22 project... The Gripen started it's development in 1982 and the first prototype made its maiden flight on December 8, 1988 and the plane only entered service in 1997 8O
So you see, you dont build any of these planes overnight.
And the MIG29 is as old as the hills.

But the Russians havent been sitting on their hands since then.
Here is the Su-35
Is there a slight resemblance to the Gripen - or vice versa? Maybe the Swedes are guilty of some copyright infringment on this one
Also the Su-47
This was to be the Russians answer to the F22. Unfortunately, this plane will probably never make it to production.
It would have been the first swept-wing military plane in production.
The forward facing wings actually give the aircraft much better maneuverability at high speed, but unless you use very strong (and expensive) alloys in the wings, they tend to bend at high G's.
A VERY good movie clip of some helis

As far as VTOL planes go the harrier will only be truly outdated when the VTOL build of the F-35 comes into service.
Those Harriers did the Brits proud in the Falklands. The sub-sonic Sea Harriers scored 22 kills against the Argentine Mach-2 Dassault Mirages, and also shot down a helicopter, with no air combat loss to themselves.
You know damn rightcYcLIc wrote:J2theT, don't bother posting anything on these forums cos chances are jamins already posted it.
