Internet Connection Sharing

Post by brabham »

Hey everyone

I´m looking for a freeware program for internet connection sharing. It must support a network of about 8 - 10 PC´s and OS´s Win98 and Win2000.

Does anyone know of something like this and where I can get it.

Ta if you do.

b~

Another question about internet sharing. If both PC´s sre online does it slow down your connection speed?

Bondi My Good Man

I have lucked out here for sure. With you to guide me I know I´ll get it right in the end. OK, enough bottom kissing...

I have tried ICS in win98 and I was using a web tutorial to guide me through it. Unfortunately right at the end after about two days worth of struggling ... (quit laughing already) ... the tutorial told me that ICS doesnt work with PPPoE. Now we are running a wireless internet connection which uses PPPoE so my problem basically starts here. I need software that supports PPPoE which can share a connection across a network.

I plan to install win2000 on the gateway PC tomorrow so any assistance you may offer should be guided towards win2000.

Thanks

Eureka!!!!

Bondi, I have done it. Eerrr.....we have done it. Dont ask me how but, I followed your advice from above and to my surprise it worked. Perhaps it had something to do with win2000. I thought you said there was more to come? A colleague just tried the connection and it worked first time. Needless to say I am eternally greatful that you have helped me to spend my free time at work messing around on the internet.

Anyways if you have more to add please do I promise to check back soon...perhaps during a free moment tomorrow morning.
Cheers and thanks again.

Ahem...

That NetBEUI thingy you told me to install...,yeah well it kinda gives an error message when we dial up to our ISP. The message is something like "conflict between TCP/IP and NetBEUI, TCP/IP connected OK but NetBEUI was unable to connect". It then gives me the option to accept the error or hang up. If I accept it works fine. That, after all is how I am managing to send this message to you.

No biggie, I dont think.

Cheers

Enjoy your day and thanks again.

You don`t have to have netBEUI installed for your internet connection to work it sometimes even slows your connection down by sending additional data out.
The only protocals I have installed is TCP/IP.

But I guess if your connection works with it loaded leave it like that!

Just thank GOD you did`nt have to setup a remote dial in connection on to of ICS with ISA server!
But I must say once it started working 16kps d/load is sweet!

Give us a shout ill help
youll save on all those calls after reconnecting
from those damm reboots just use the host as a server for your connection and then use your other pc as you main one for your downloads and other stuff then anytime you have to reboot ,your other pc retains the connection , Hence no more re dails
cool hey, hope it helps
