Regulating Prices

Post by Rudd »

having nothing to do i decided to shop around and compare prices of mundane things. Deciding to check out cpus, i compared the price of a amd xp 2000 between computermania and cafejava==result pure shock.

amd xp 2000 at computermania 1.990 rand
amd xp 2000 at cafejava 1.049 rand

thats a difference of 941 rand almost a 100 percent increase.

Is there no regulating body in sa that sets out the guidelines for computer prices, i mean people are being ripped off left right and centre cos they dont know better. This comparison shocks me and makes me sad, that these computer giants dont actually give a dawm, and everyday another person is ripped off of there hard earned money.

It is sick.

I notice you didn´t even include Incredible Corruption in that comparison, I think they will give you the worst shock of the lot. That´s why I always shop around for quite a while b4 I buy anything. And I always advise friends who don´t know what they are doing to come to me or someone else who knows what is going on. Corporates are *******s, and they just don´t care *shrug*
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

You´ll find the same phenomena all over the world. While looking at Geforce 4ti 4200 128Mb on Pricewatch - which only lists USA prices, I found cards in the range from $120 up to $250 - more than double the price. Things like this aren´t exclusive to South Africa.

Next time you walk into incredible corruption go have a look at there graphic cards!
They wanted to sell me a GeForce 2 MX 200 32MB Sd Ram for R2500 now that must be the biggest rip of I have ever seen!
I can get a MSI GeForce 4 Ti4800 for the same price .......

I think I`m gonna stand in the shop next time and show people what I can get and at what price and then we can decide! I hate big corprates!

I walked into Copu City in Tygervalley today and saw that they sold a MSI GF4 MX440 64MB with vid in and tv out for R1999 and the one without vid in for R1199. man what a "boere verneukery"!!! The one with vid in is only about R90 more at the dealers, so why in heavens name do they bump the price that much(R700)? They are so full of crap, like most of the big shops. My motto is: stick to the small guy and save a hell of a lot of money!!

[ Edited by Mephesto-AF- On Date
April 16, 2003 ]
