Hi

I personally will go for a 2400+ amd on a 7vax or 7vaxp or 7vaxpu mobo.

Save a few bucks for the same or even better performance from AMD.

If your looking for gameing machine AMD is the way to go.

If your looking for a work machine AMD is the way to go.

If your looking for a server INTEL is the way to go.

Rather take the bucks you save and stick some more DDR in your machine.

What is your current GPU?

Cheers

Not worth going for 400MHz DDR in my opinion. Rather save some money and go for 333MHz. You won´t really feel the performance difference, but your pocket will feel the price difference.

Id rather buy a 8NIXP which has the newest intel chipset and supports Dual-channel DDR 266.The mobo b a little expensive but the ram b cheaper and faster. (INTEL RULZZ!!)

yea thats an idea ....
buy a more expensive board and a extra dimm prob cost me a arm and a leg ..

and amd , havent had much with those in the past ! thing about amd they get too hot , board goes faulty , had so many boards and cpu,s that have fried , flip knows why , got any ideas ?

thinking of sticking with intel , have had no problems with them

my system i want to upgrade is a p3 800 with 256 mb ram

thing about dual ddr , can u run a dimm by itslf instead of 2 x dimms ?

busy looking at that ga-8inxp very cool but at like R2600 cost from rectron abit heavy fliiip
is it realy worth all is money ?

DIMMs don´t need to be paired. The old SIMMs needed to be paired, but a DIMM (dual inline memory module) is basically two SIMMs (single inline memory module) strapped back-to-back. So yes, you can gete a single, or an odd number of, DIMMs.

tree you dont have to run dual ddr but the p4 will love the extra bandwidth so it would be nice to run two identical dimms in a dual channel config but it is not essential and you can run single channel without losing too much performance (maybe around 5% slower in a single channel config compared to a dual channel) but the quad pumped architecture of the p4 will thank yu for running dual channel

ps synkronos the dual channel architecture is something totally different from the pairing that you are talking about

pps the 8s-q800 supports the dual channel and about the only diff in the specs between it and the 8inxp is that two different companies make the chipsets while the 8inxp (e7205 chipset - aka granite bay) will only support ddr266 mem while the gs-q800 will support ddr400 even in a dual channel config

Hmmm... seems I am a bit behind on certain tech then I know _nothing_ about the dual channel stuff... oh well, off to look up web resources I guess

yea that ga-8sq800 looks a nice board
not badly priced either
im gonna upgrade my pc with dual ddr
the performance must be incredible

but one thing is the dual ddr the technology is going ?

and will this board be able to run a single drr instead of 2 ? then at a later stage add another one and add memory to make it dual
?

shot guys for the advice it helps
