Yeah, dial up number is *99# and yoy will download 40-50Kbps! Rather nice and fast, also its R2 per MB you download, unless you have free WAP and if its vlive (free Vodacom WAP) then you will have to use proxys for EVERYTHING and proxy tunnlers and anonymizers.etc .etc .etc

What if all he wants to know is how to check whether his computer is using normal GPRS or 3G ;-) (without having to buy the data card).
I'd say just do a download of a 1Mb file - that'll let you see quickly enough whether it's using 3G or not.

I don’t know everything and I can be wrong about this but 3g connection have those nifty cards that plug into your notebook right and GPRS is your mobile plugged into your pc and it gets used like a normal dial-up

But does it matter its not cheap

1 mb file should take you +- 24 secs to download
the conn. speed that you see in the system tray is the port speed you can change this by going to control panel phone and modem and change speed from 115200 to 921600
also use a speed test

hmm my understanding is that you can buy a special card for your pc that will do GPRS/3G - depending on what your area will support.
"Integrity" and "integer" both contain a Latin root meaning "whole; complete." The root sense, then, is that people may be said to be acting with integrity when their beliefs, words, and actions have a sense of unity or wholeness.

wow...this is kinda funny! @ Anthropoid21 check your PM. You can use your phone as a modem and if the network supports 3G and your phone is 3G and you have 3G signal, you should get 40-50kbps downloads speeds on average. With the 3G data card, you get slower speeds, even though its still 3G (unless its HSDPA, that supports 1.8Mbps (not sure of the average downlaod speeds) ). Also the it will auto, matically start using 3G once you have connected (unless you dont have 3G signal). You can y=use your GPRS and/or 3G phone as a modem and get internet like that and you can also use the 3G data cards to get internet (wireless) long with the iBurst and Symtech (hope I spelt it right). Any1 stil a bit confused or need a bit of help?

Vodafone live is a service which offers free internet and WAP so its free...BUT has limits and there are ways around them and also you have to use proxys!

Proxies are "gateways" or portals if you will,, they give you a different ip address, or just cloak yours from being seen, which in turn gives you anonimity...Think FBI, CIA, NSA...
