Media2Go - these devices enable consumers to watch and listen to their digital media content wherever and whenever they want. Our research tells us (Microsoft) that consumers want a single function media-specific device.

I don´t think that this sort of device would really appeal to the mass market, as many people don´t need such a device! The cellphones of today can do pretty much all of what the portable media player can (with the exception of a DVD player). Of course having one would be fun, but it´s not really practical and necessary. I´m guessing that the price will be pretty high, which will also deter many people. But the question you have to ask yourself is that, "Is this device really necessary, or is it just another gimmik that infomercials will convince you that you can´t live without!"

I think it could work, but at first only yuppies and rich people would buy it just for the sake of having a gadget that´s new. As was said before, it´s not really necessary but people like gadgets so I think it might catch on eventually.

I´ll have to say it could succeed provided its not as costly as I assume it would be, its lightweight, and it doesn´t need its own postal code.

<BR>Hopefully the screen isn´t too small (all my life I want to watch a video on a calculator screen), and the unit isn´t too bulky. If its big enough to fit to carry in my girfriends handbag, then I´m all for it.... <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_lol.gif">

FAIL FAIL FAIL (Everywhere exept for the USA that is.)
<BR>Since this platform works on Windows CE .Net it would rather be usefull on PDAs. Not a stand alone media device that will cost an arm and a leg in the first place. Sensible people will buy a PDA, and if it supports Media2Go, Bonus. If not, Who cares?
<BR>
<BR>Americans will go for it though, that´s what they are famous for (Wasting money on non essential stuff).

FAIL
<BR>
<BR>Definately Fail. Especially in south-africa. I mean look at broadband we have an issue getting a broadband 24/7 connection at a decent price without a cap nevertheless mobile devices which use these ´broadband´ internet.
<BR>
<BR>Who would be able to afford such a device? Not your average joe.
<BR>
<BR>It´s only recently that pc sales has gone up and more people are getting computers nevermind these fancy and expensive devices.. <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_confused.gif">

I didnt have to write why I felt the way I did because of the fact that it would be redundant, as everybody has expressed what they feel, and I would speak along similar lines!!

FAIL!
<BR>
<BR>Only someone like my dad´s uncle (who´s mega rich) would buy it so he could show off just another gadget added to his already large collection. It sounds like a success device for Japan and USA! I´m not interested in the product anyway. If it was cellphone compatible however... <IMG SRC="images/forum/smilies/icon_wink.gif">

this is a definite fail. Especially for most south africans. If you look at prices for ALL microsoft products, they are out of the pockets of the ordinary south african, take XP PRO (approx. R3500.00 for RETAIL), and HALO (which is not that good in my opinion) goes for the wrong side of R450.00. So this is a NO!

The answer lies in where the market is being targeted. If answered in the South African context then certainly it will fail. Frankly SA is not the market being aimed at, however a few percent of this lucrative market in the United States will translate into millions and millions of US$. The unit is up market enough to appeal in the States and it is being launched at an appropriate time. The next area they will look at is Europe and I feel that here too it will succeed. Yes I think in a universal context it will succeed.
