Gigabyte makes good boards. I´m currently using a GA-7VAX runnig a AMD XP 1800+ with 256 DDR (266MHZ). I have had no problems with this board or my previous one, a GA-6WMMC7 (until I stuffed the BIOS up while flashing - unrepairable)

I have a gigabyte board too. I´m happy with it. Never had any problems.

I have a p4 1.7GHz and my board can handle upto a 2.4GHz processor. Its pretty stable although that might be more due to XP Pro.

I´d gladly buy another.

Looks like a very sweet mobo. The only other thing that I would like it to have if you _really_ don´t want to upgrade for an age is a serial ATA HDD interface. This will, unfortunately, probably push the price up a chunk since it is _very_ new tech.

I dont know how reliable the SIS chipsets is lately.
I prefer sticking to Intel chipsets so I recommend the GA - 8NIXP mobo. The only bad thing bout this mobo is that it only supports Dual DDR 266 Mhz. (Ive seen benchmarks where it was just as fast as Rambus 1066, so its not that bad )

I have a GA 7VAXP. Good board , DDR 400 , AGP 8x , supports Barton. Gigabyte boards also have good features (dual bios) etc. My friend has a P4 Gigabyte , using SIS chipset I think. He is quite happy.

Rather go for the 2.0 gig, Ti 4200 deal.

If you get a fast CPU, and no (or cr@p) video card, it would be a waste of time getting the fast CPU. Games wont run very well with a **** graphics card, even though you will have a fast CPU.

Ti 4200 + P4 2.0gig should give you about 10 000 3D marks - a very respectable score!

Keep it real!!

Im running the gigabyte 7VAX and have no problem with it. Its totally stable running my 2200+ which ive overclocked to 2400+, and its only running 3 degrees hotter. It was running at 31 degrees and now is running at 34 degrees. It also supports the new AMD BARTON processors which is pretty cool

I agree with AssDisease, except that you should save yourself a bundle of cash and rather get an Athlon 2000+!
P4 = Simply the best, not "whistles and bells" gadgets, and overclocking pre-ejaculation exitement over a 5% performance improvement (Look MA, my 1,2 Ghz is now a 1,32Ghz!! WOW?!?).

Do yourself a favour, if you want a good stable board, buy one with an Intel chip, Intel 845 is very stable and fast. SIS are just not there.

jedi you sound like the voice of complete experience speaking not - in fact you sound like a complete idiot cos every oem amd chip comes with a one year warranty while the boxed set comes with a three year warranty and if some jackass sold you grey stock and refused to honor the warranty then all i can say is dont be and ******* and buy from assholes - go to the correct people and get the correct stuff - as for the stability i dare you to bring your rig over to my place and lets play unreal tournament 2003 till one of the rigs crash - you will soon be talking a different language

it is idiots like this who dont have a clue that actually give all hardware a bad name - stability depends mainly on how you setup your rig and my current amd rig is balls to the wall stable while im currently building up another - plus ive owned and sold many intel rigs and once setup i dont find too much of difference between them at all - it makes me wonder what you do with your comp to have an attitude like you do that you can actually log onto a public forum to talk out of your bottom - excuse the language but it really grates me when fanboys who are total idiots wanna pretend that they know what they are talking about while most of the knowledge that they have is either second hand or rumours

ps you say that the 845 chipset is fast then dude you have a lot to learn cos in the older p4´s the 850 chipset was way faster together with rdram and recently the e7205 chipset otherwise known as granite bay was fast and right now intel are busy releasing an 800mhz chipset which is fast - and despite all of that im running amd machines that still are about as fast for far less money - and if you think that i cannot afford a p4 then please think again - maybe when hyperthreading is a mature thing and has a real world benefit with software that can use it ill consider - till then i will base my decisions on bang for the buck and planned usage of the machine and not on some n00b statement like you have just made above

ps let me build you an amd rig and if you dont enter the bios and you can get it to overheat then you will win - anyways i dont know why im getting overheated myself over the crap that you spewed forth cos youve obviously no idea of what thermal compound is much less than why it is equired plus words like heatsink and fan are too difficult to comprehend so i dont want to go in over your head with "over technical" discussions or you might just finish off with a bigger headache than you just gave me

Jeez Jedi, you must be a Complete Fu*king Idiot. How can you make a Blue Bulls analogy like that

Intel chipsets are good, but they are too expensive. It´s not worth the extra price for what you get, so stuff it.

And what do you mean, ´HDD 7200 Rpm or higher´, Jedi? You don´t _get_ higher, at least not readily available.

Naughty is right in that stability is certainly not just a function of the components, but also how you set it up.
