Any passively cooled gfx card will run hot (well the decently fast ones anyway). Make sure the case has a negative pressure (more fans blowing out than in) and remove the "metal thingie one removes when installing a PCI or GFX card", the one underneath the gfx card. This will force air to run over the gfx card heatsink.
You can also try removing the heatsink, lapping it, and applying some AS5.
If that doesn't yeild satifactory results, then buy a zalman VF700, or wait for zalman's VF900.

Now there is some good advice. I think I will take that for myself. I have a Colorful 6600 vanilla with stock cooling (a small heatsink and fan), but it idles at about 63*C.Bobendren wrote: then buy a zalman VF700, or wait for zalman's VF900.
Which is better:
1. Zalman VF700 AlCu Led (Al & Cu)

2. Vantec iceberq5 CCB-A5C (Cu)

3. Zalman VF700-Cu Led (Cu)
http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/vie ... 3&code=013
They are in order of price.
Is the VF700-Cu worth the extra cash?

The Cu cools about 2'C betterer. The LED verions look prettier. Don't bother with the iceberq.supagx wrote:Now there is some good advice. I think I will take that for myself. So this one would be cool?

It is about R50 less than the Cu one.

How did you crush your card? 84C is hot, my GTX overclocked loads at 58C, 5C less than your idle temp.

I am leaning towards the AlCu, just don't want to waste any cash.

For R50 extra i'd get the CU. I've got one at home on my FX5900 at the moment, but haven't tested it. Supposed to be a little better then the ALCU.

This is the current set up.
this is the heat pipe Which was done by zalman.
and...
this is the extraction around that area, there should be a good air flow in that area, yet overheating is still a problem, any suggestions?

Ok, if you did remove the slot under the graphics card then try block up other place where air enters the case. This will increase the velocity/volume of air moving over the gfx card heatsink.Avatar7 wrote:This is the current set up.

Make sure that rear fan is sucking air out.
I've tried a few things and stability is still not good, I was thinking of getting the zalman fatal1ty vga cooler, good/bad? And where can i get it, i've tried shops in PMB, nothing. Can i not do a debit order with SA online stores?
Will the cooler fit on the card? this card?

Yeah it's about the best choice atm. The VF700Cu will cool pretty much the same though. The only difference between it and the fatal1ty version is the red colour and faster fan.
Zalman are releasing the VF900 soon, it's bigger and has intergrated heatpipes. So you may want to wait for that.

I bought the VF700Cu today. I haven't had chance to install it yet though. But I will let you know how well it works. It looks very nice. Blue heatsinks for memory and a blue LED. It is quite heavy though. If you want red LEDs then get the fatal1ty.

I installed my VF700Cu LED on my Colorful Geforce 6600 and I am very impressed. The idle temperature dropped about 13*C and the load temperature dropped about the same. With the stock cooler I managed to get the core speed from 300Mhz to 411Mhz, with the Zalman I can get the core to about 470Mhz!
