Laptop overheating

Post by cOokie_mOnster »

I.ve got a laptop which won't stop freezing and shutting down when i play games, it's a P4 3.2 Ghz (hyperthreaded).

The other day i was working on my desktop when i got this message in the bios saying (WARNING OVERCLOCK FAILED!), so i restarted my computer and all went back to usual.

Is it in any way possible that i've got a virus on my laptop which automatically overclocks the CPU?

Cause sometimes my CPU is running at around 82' degrees:evil: , and my motherboards sitting on 68'.

What can i do to cool things down here??????????????? ( Oh and some times i get the blue screen of death and the computer shuts down for no reason).....

I've never heard of a virus that can change settings in your BIOS, i don't think it's possible, but one of those Notebook coolers shouold help, 82 Degrees is very very hot.

I'm afraid i have no idea. I don't have a notebook. Sorry man.

Just google are for one. Try online stores like computersonly.co.za or buycomputers.co.za.

I hope this helps.

Check in the bios if you\whoever didnt enable the auto overclocking features. You can also load the default bios settings (one of the options on the main menu) to ensure you dont have clocking enabled.

Thanks for the advice and links. I've come to a conclusion that my BIOS is ok its just my CPU and gfx card that are running far too hot.

So i definitely need to buy a cooler. Does anybody own one of the coolers rfom the above links, if so could you please share some feedback.

The Antec one looks nice.
