Peltiers (AKA TEC)

Post by DAE_JA_VOO »

Have any of you ever used peltiers in your cooling setup? I'm interested in it because i've seen on a few other forums people use peltiers.

I'm interested but i'm worried about condensation etc...

Any experience?

Leave peltiers be. You need loads of power, very good insulation, lots of luck, and money, as you will need to buy the biggest pelts available, around 277W units.......

Go water. Easy. Clean. No fuss. No mess.

@mrbean: okay. i've read alot about peltiers, especially on pimprig, and i considered it, but i don't want problems like condensation taking place around a 4000+ and A8N-32 SLI. (not that i have that hardware, but i will soon :) )

peltiers are for when you are very experienced with cooling - though id go phase change over peltiers anyway since pelts are very fussy

phase change may be far more expensive - but its easier to setup and no fuss and good for everyday usage - in the meantime as the guys have said above use water

Yeah, but condensation is a problem with phase change cooling too, you know.

Anyone heard of the Thermaltake Subzero 4g Peltier Kit?

It seems fairly safe to me, regarding the reviews I've read and the Thermaltake website seems quite reassuring.

And it sells for R350... It was R1300 back in 2003.

I'm considering it, but want more opinions.

Any good heatsink recommendations for Socket A (462) chipsets. (I prefer pure copper)

Well, you're probably better off cooling you machine with an apple as opposed to Thermaltake. Zalman or Thermalright are your best bets. The thermalright XP-90 and XP-120 are very good.

Because it's cheap (well cheaper than it was back in the day) and not everyone trusts or are comfortable with watercooling kits... like me.

I'm not buying a peltier kit (for the record), but it's a good alternative to other standard heatsinks.

Only drawback is that it doesn't provide the best cooling when under heavy loads (like for overclocking), but it is very silent.
