Where can I find a good Graffix card Benchmark web site?
Does any one know of a good site for getting benchmarks? I want to purchase a graffics card and have decided to go for either the 64MB GEFORCE4-MX440-DDR-AGPx8 or the 128MB GEFORCE4-MX440SE-SDR TV-OUT. I would just like to know how the two compare to each other, or if there is something in the same price range (I can get either at the same price) that is possibly better.

Gunna, I suppose you could try www.futuremark.com - they are the guys who brought out 3DMark and PCMark benchmarking programs. Most people there tend to stay away from the MX cards though since they aren´t Direct X compatible.

I can promise you the 64MB GEFORCE4-MX440-DDR-AGPx8 will be faster than the 128MB GEFORCE4-MX440SE-SDR, since the 64Mb version you listed uses DDR Ram, while the 128Mb uses SD Ram which is slower. Even if both use DDR RAm, the 64Mb version of the card is almost always a little faster than the 128, since the clock speeds are usually a little higher on a 64Mb than a 128.

However it´s only a few FPS difference. As long as both of them use the same type of memory. Try and get a Geforce 4 Ti instead if you can afford it, it´s much faster, and it´s Direct X 8 compatible. GeForce 4 MX is just like a Geforce 2MX at a higher clock speed.

Hmm, that kinda buggers the whole lot up then!

Maybe the question I should be asking then is - What is the best off the shelf card for under R1000?

Do I go GF2, 3 or 4?

Well if you want a fast Nvidia card for under R1000 you´ll unfortunately have to settle for an MX card, unless you can find a Geforce 3Ti second hand or something, because most shops who do stock Geforce 3Ti´s sell them for R1500 and up.

A good bet might be to look into a Radeon 8500Pro or Radeon 9000 non pro. The Radeon 8500 Pro will sell for more than the 9000 non pro though, so shop around and see where you can find the best card for your budget. Or, if you´re lucky enough ( like me ) and you have family in the USA, you can get them to bring you back a Geforce 4Ti for about $130 = R1200 or so.

Hmmm, all new possiblities then:
64MB ATI Radeon 8500LE+TV Out-DDR R910.86
or 64MB ATI Radeon 9000+TV Out-DDR R728.46

But the 128MB GEFORCE4-TI4200 AGPx8-DDR TV-OUT goes way out at R 1822.86

Why does this have to be so difficult . Oh well Guess I´ll just have to carry on checking around.

Shot for the advise.
Has the coolest graphs on how the tests performed. Looks like the 64MB ATI Radeon 8500LE+TV Out-DDR will be my purchase. I´d love to be able to get a higher range card but this will be the one that fits the wallet... till next bonus that is *efg*.

Shot for all the advice OnlyOneKenobi - much appreciation.

If You are in the Cape Town area I can get you a GeForce3 Ti450 64MB for R1170 or a Ati Radeon 9000 for R1075 If not in CT then you will have to pay for the shipping to wherever you are. (One year warranty on all graphics cards)

If you have a motherboard which has AGP 8x then get the GeForce 4 Ti 4200 AGP 8x, it is the best bet, I was very annoyed at myself because I got the mx440 AGP 8x, wait a bit longer if you have to and get the Ti 4200.

Yeah Kyle if you reread my post you´ll notice I put it´s not Direct x 8 compatible. Meaning, it won´t utilize DX8 or higher.
