Golf 14I i or 16i

Post by thread3 »

Hi Ive got a Golf MK1 95 model 16 non i

I'm Buying a new one.

either the 14i velocity or 16i velocity.

My current 16 is pretty powerfull it only has 4 gears so the acceleration is not bad
and i can get about 160 out it on flat strait road.

Now i want to know will the 14i faster slower or pretty much the same.

The 14i is only 1.1 seconds slower than the 16i from 0-100Kph

is it worth paying the diff.

Help me make a choice fellas

Hey, welcome to the forums.

Well, the 14i is probably gonna be a little better than your current one because of the fuel injection.
What's the price diff in the 14 and 16 (new ones)?

What do you want out of your car? Performance, just an average drive?

Just as long the 14i is not slower.
And i must say every now and again I do intend to dice a little

Just a little :) Robot to robot.

We all know the 16i is faster.

The first thing i'm goin to do is replace the Air filter with a K&N

I know the 14i growls loud with a K&N

The 1.6i Velocity is just 10km/h faster at top end.

According to VW.co.za it is 1.5 s slower on 0 - 100km/h

and that for R11 000 more!

Perhaps the 1.4i is a better option. then you can start with the air filter, maybe a freeflow exhaust, and if you're really into it, add branches. That will give you the same performance as the 1.6i

I don't know what the Warrantee implications of these changes would be though.

If you want to keep the Warrantee intact, just get the 1.6i Velocity and add the air filter. You'll get more or less 75kW from it then.

Then its going to be the 1.4i

Thanks.

R11 000! more?

1.4i stuff the warranty

So its almoust a 100G's for a car that was designes almoust 30 years ago.

If the car runs 100% after 5 mnts then it should run forever after that.

When i went for the brochures the lady told me theres a rumer the GolF
MK1 shape might change in the next 2 years.

Dont know abouth that though!

Cheeers felas. made my choice!!!!

a few years ago, I owned a 1,4i just with a BMC filter and a 50mm flow. I would kick most 1600's butts! The 1.6i will be quicker though...

I drive a 2005 2.0 Polo. A few weeks ago m I had a hard time dropping a 1.4i Velociti (which was obviously hotted up!)... I was really impressed by that guys pull.....and we were going uphill!

You can call Zeton Aircon in Midrand....They do a "water-cooler" for small engined cars at around R1500. A friend of mine fitted one in his Tazz....worked really well (about 80% of the feel of real AC), but it did'nt affect his power at all and didn't affect his fuel consumption either...

There might be warranty implications though....I wanted to fit one on my 1.4i Citi, and VW gave me hell about it, so I did'nt end up fitting it. Just closed my eyes, and bought an air conditioned Polo....
