Search bar in Internet Explorer 6

Every session (Win Me) when opening Internet Explorer 6 for the first time, the Search bar is opened in the frame on the left of the screen and this really annoys me. However, when I close Explorer, the Search bar remains closed even if I close and re-open Explorer. Can anyone assist me in preventing the Search bar initially opening at all? Thanx in anticipation. Have you looked in the IE properties ?
