AGP vs PCI

Post by amock »

Recently my brother got suckered into buying a complete system with one of those all-in-one motherboards with no AGP slot. I´m not talking about nForce or nForce2 but intels interegrated chipset. It has a max of 16MB of video-ram which it steals from the standerd (128mb) ram chip and is ´chug-chug´ slow. He then decided an upgrade in graphics was needed for games but his only option was PCI based cards so he bought a Gainward geforce2 mx200 PCI.

I have 2 reasons for putting up this meassage:

(1) To warn any pc buyer that if he´s offered a PC at a really cheap price, check if the mother-board is using Intels Intergrated graphics, if it is...RUUUUNNNNNNNN the other way and don´t look back

(2) To see if anyone knows what the performance drop is from Geforce2 AGP too PCI.

I had Geforce 2 Mx 200 intergrated on a 1Gig duron and it did its job all right! It got 2500 3d marks and ran quake @ about 56 FPS! I would say scrap that computer and get an AGP port!
