Toca Race Driver

Post by Jakes007 »

Hi Guys, I have a problem with Toca Race Driver. I installed the game and everything runs perfectly up to stage where the actual racing screen has to appear. My PC then seems to develop a mind of its own and just reboots. Yeah, I have all the latest drivers! I am running an AMD 1800+ with 512MB Ram with a Leadtek A170 GeForce 4 MX440 graphics card. I am really frustrated as this game cost me a lot of money and I can´t get it to work. Colin McRae 3 does exactly the same. Toca 2 and CM 2 however, works perfectly. Any ideas anyone?

- Does the demos work on your machine?

- Maybe try the no-cd patch.

- What DirectX are you running?

- your CAS-TRP-TRAS-TRCD memory settings may be a bit to aggresive (See Here)

Sorry to disappoint you guys, especially you Winged. Yeah, it is the original copies of the games. Bought them at Incredible Ripoffs, sorry I mean Incredible Connection. The demo versions on the PC Format discs do exactly the same. I also have installed Direct X 9. I am truelly baffled!

This looks as if its one of two problems. The most likely is a power supply issue - AMD´s require furious amounts of power, if the processor, graphics card RAM etc.. are all being called at once (as mentioned) and the machine reboots it is either a Power supply issue, or, your processor is running too hot and resets. You can buy a bigger power supply if thats the fault - it its the processor then i suggest that you change the alarm and/or reset temp in your bios, or fiddle about with the clock frequency etc... hope this can be of help.

Are you in Durban ??!

also check how much system memory your Graphics card is set to use in the display properties, and check the AGP aperture in your bios - research this i have seen varying opinions / reasons as to what this does and it may differ from one machine to the next.

Check your soundcard. If it has a C-media(CMI) chipset, it is most likely your problem. I have a CMI chipset soundcard and the game works, but sometimes it just crashes. I Installed a creative soundcard and the game worked 100%. Hope this helps

Howzit again guys!

The power supply option is rather unlikely as I have a 350W supply with two internal fans and an extractor fan. My graphics card is a GeForce 4 MX 440 with 64Mb ram. Mephesto may have a point since I use the onboard sound, VIA AC´97 of my motherboard (Gigabyte GX7-DXE). Maybe i should try out a soundblaster device. Oh, Spider, by the way, I´m from Johannesburg...good old Jozi!!

Great news guys, I actually managed to SOLVE my problem. A great thanks to Mephesto who got me on the right track. The problem was indeed my onboard sound. When I disabled my sound, the game worked just fine...obviously without sound though. So I invested R500 in a new Soundblaster card and VOILA...great game.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO TRIED TO ASSIST ME. Great bunch of guys you are!!!!

I also had a similar problem with Freelancer. It was slightly different in that when the intro movies showed, the computer would hang. No matter what I tried (loading new/old drivers) the game would freeze while playing the main intro video. The solution, to my surprise, was to delete the videos!

After deleting the intro video from the game directory, the game started and ran like a dream! How could a movie file be the source of the problem?

You bought a new sound card Jakes? I had a similar problem with Toca Race Driver and an AC97 sound card. I downloaded the latest drivers and Toca works fine.
