Intel 3.0 HT (about to blow)??
Intel 3.0 HT (about to blow)??
Hey all
i have a couple of very serious problems:
1. The CPU is running at 50-58
2. The power supply -12V rail is at 15V
3. The north bridge HS is so hot that is feels hotter than any heatsink i have ever felt (and i also have a 2500+ barton)
What do do???
Buy new M\B , PSU or NB fan ??there is currently a 300w no-name and no-name m\b if i get a new mothersboard it will be a ECS or Abit
Thanks any help will be great

Er, I would switch my PC off, and keep it off until I sort the problem out....I'm no expert, but i'm guessing your PSU is acting up.
15V on -12 sound a bit dangerous to me.

I don't think you should worry too much about the -12 V rail, mine is -7.8V. Have no idea what bearing that has on my system but it seems to be running fine (Maybe a PSU guru could shed some light on this) . My +12V is at 13.3V. This being a Barton 2800+ running on an AOPEN 450W PSU.trailb wrote:Hey all

With regards to the heatsink, does it have a fan on it, or not? Maybe the fan is just giving in?

The Cpu i see is ok for being a Prescott but my major prob is the Northbridge heat sink (and it does not have any fan on it) i estimate it about 60-70 C (in comparison with the cpu meter - just to give a comparison)
And i think that that is the main reason for the cpu and system (30C) being hot, i think it should come down to 30-45 if that problem is gone - New MB??

Hmm, pretty hasty aren't you. Not sure if it would affect your system temp. What prog are you using to monotor the voltages, maybe its talking k@k.trailb wrote:The Cpu i see is ok for being a Prescott but my major prob is the Northbridge heat sink (and it does not have any fan on it) i estimate it about 60-70 C (in comparison with the cpu meter - just to give a comparison)

For the record, my CPU/Board temps (idle) are 42/32 on stock cooling with arctic silver, so my temps are fine, even with voltages that are completely off.

I wouldn't replace my mobo unless my system was behaving really strangely, and I'd eliminated CPU\RAM\PSU as a problem... Why not just get a fan for the NB HS? Or buy an aftermarket one with a fan on? Probably cheaper than a new mobo...

The temp is a little high, my 3.0 Prescott idles in the low 40's...trailb wrote:... running at 50-58...

About point number 3.... errr... touching a heatsink is something most people only do twice... the first time it feels nice and warm (and safe)... the next time you touch a different one.... sssssssssssssssssizzle.... "anyone smell pork?"
