HDD repair company

Post by Cameron_Losco »

Does anybody know of a company that repairs hard drives? A mate of mine had a 20 GIG Fujitsu (model MPD308AT) and it seems like the board has had it's day. He took it to a company in Randburg who couldn't do anything to help him and he is getting desperate.

Thanks

I do data-recovery as well, and I can tell you that he's going to battle simply because it's a Fujitsu drive.

There's a firmware flaw in the drives which is the subject of a class-action suit in the US and is the major reason why Fujitsu drives are no longer sold.

The only way he'll get the data off now is via Blue-Laser in the US. I can arrange it for him, but it'll take a few weeks, unfortunately - the drive has to be shipped there, they remove the platter(s) and use the laser on it.

Thats really interesting Thrall, I did not know that.

I have 2 Fujitsu drives at home a 4GB and an 8.4GB drive. The 4GB drive is about about 6 years old and they both have never given me a moments hassle.

On the other hand, I have been through 3 Maxtor drives in 2 years.

No prizes for guessing who should get sued in my opinion......

The problems were with the Fujitsu 10 Gb, 20Gb and 40Gb drives in particular - I haven't seen a problem yet with the smaller ones :)

Seagate is very good, closely followed by Western Digital and IBM - Maxtor drives are actually ok nowadays, but I wouldn't keep mission-critical data on one - it's one of the most common brands I get to recover data from.

95% of Hard Drive errors, failures, etc are due to heat related circumstances.

Get Hard Drive Fans, and replace them twice yearly, and prolong the life of your Hard Drive!
