I don´t think so not if the writer works without any hassels, maybe it fell off the back of a truck or something.

Looks like a good price, definately not a rip off, and not really low enough to spark suspicion about falling off trucks etc

I don´t like A Open drives anymore. I just got another A Open CD Rom (it´s under warranty) this is my third A open drive that had to be replaced in just over 1 year.

I have heard many bad stories with AOpen, and not just their writers. Hey, not everyone will have a problem with them of course
If you have the dosh, a Plextor writer is the only way to go. It is twice the price, but is _dead_ reliable, and fast (supports the new CAV [Constant Angular Velocity] burning tech).

I couldn't be more happier with my Yamaha CRW-F1, which set me back by about R2400-00.

We also have a AOpen CD RW, and it works like a charm.
My friends also all have AOpen and no probs - One even has an AOpen DVD Re-Writer, with no problems.

The only interesting things that has happened to me (And incedently to a friend) is that a CD has shattered in the drive...

We lost a good Music CD (Original, not copy) when I played something. We pulled out a few Pieces of the writer as well, but it still works fine - Thank goodness!!!!!!!!

I Installed over a Hundred Aopen 52x Writers.
And only one comeback.

I however Installed 10 Samung Writers and 9 comebacks.
All different specs.

And with the Saumsung's I wait a minimum of two weeks for warrenty swaps. (Sahara)

I've got a Samsung writer as well, a 40x12x40 to be exact. It runs fine with one exception and that is the access time is a bit slow as well as the reading! But other than that there's been no technical problems what so ever!

I have three computers at home, two of them with Samsung CDROM's and the other a Sony CDROM. The first computer also has a AOpen CD Writer. Sometimes the Samsungs refuses to read some CD's, but then it's usually a low-qualiy writed CD. My AOpen has never had a problem. I think the problem is that people buy low-quality CDs because they're cheaper. It's very easy to buy it, because you can't actually SEE the difference between low-quality and higher quality, but your CD Writer surely can!
