Plz help,scores are to low,148 on 3dMark 2005

Post by AnthroToxin »

Hey guys. Just wanna know what i can do to improve my PC`s perfomance. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 512mb Ram,one is a DDR333 module the other a DDR400 module. MSI KM400M motherboard and a crappy GeForce FX 5200. I know this is not a top of the range system but am I supposed to be getting 148marks in 3dMark 2005. Yes that`s not a typing error,I only achieve 148 marks.I also don`t have a clue what you guys are talking about when you say timings should be 2.5-2-2 or something like that.Plz help, any advice would be appreciated.

You might believe it or not, but those scores are spot-on. The FX5200 is a pretty weak card, and I suspect that you're using a 64-bit memory bus width edition. Time to get a better system I guess ;)

Hi AnthroToxin

The 5200 isn't a great performer(in my opinion anyway). The best i can suggest is to find someone with a simular card and compare your score or upgrade if possible. :)

Maybe experiment with different drivers, and remember to use driver cleaner to remove old drivers before installing new ones.

Memory timings

Post by AnthroToxin »

Thanx for the help guys. Do you think the rest of my system is ok?Do I only need a new GPU or what? What about the memory timings? Also,my system is running at a 266 mhz fsb at the moment, how can I improve that? When i set the jumpers on my pc it refuses to boot.

You can set a lot of "jumpers". You're running a 2400+, which I also have, so we can conclude that it is either a Throughbred-B or Thorton, with the Thoroughbred-B having a great overclocking potential. The problem is your motherboard, which won't allow for an asynchronous AGP/PCI bus, and therefore your overclock will be limited by your peripheral cards. If you want to get a better score, get a new system. Upgrading isn't worth if you're gonna keep half the parts.

ROFL sounds like you have not updated 3Dmark05, theres a bug in v 1 that gives nvidia cards lower scores
