Windows 95 is also still being used, what's the big deal? I'm sure there's a PC out there somewhere still using Windows 3.1 with Dos 5 or something as well.

I still use Win98SE :)

Post by quapmocka »

I'm someone who is still using Win98SE.

But it's on my old PC, which is a P2 233, 128MB RAM, 16MB RivaTNT. And I've dual-booted it with Win98 and Win2000.

Win98 is for me and I use it for all my old games that I have that don't work on XP. I've installed some pretty old game on it, some that still require me to edit the autoexec.bat and config.sys files to load sound, mouse and CD ROM drivers for the DOS games. But it works like a charm, and it's damn fast.

Win2000 is for my parents, they just do their e-mail and light internet surfing.

The old PC is hooked up to my PC and setup for internet sharing.

I've got a Win98SE PC... It works a charm for running games that don't run under XP.

My 'ancient' Win98 PC is a PIII 850, with 384 Megs RAM and a GeForce 2 MX graphics card. Plenty of power for most of the older games! :P

Windows 98 is cool :)

I use it on my old P100 since it can't handle anything higher. This system is used for playing card games and listening to music mostly but honestly I've had very few problems with 98 on it. Its networked and has internet access and mapped drives and all.

Still up at two in the mornin???

I run a dual boot with Two Hard Drives.

The first (80gb) is for Linux (partitioned (30gb) for Linux and the rest for storage)

The Other is partitioned into two (Windows XP -- Windows 98 SE)

Windows 98 SE is perfect run all the old ***** (I know it's been said before) but in my case I enjoy seeing how those games super fast on my computer.

Quite enjoyable when I consider the times when I used to worry having enough RAM
When you see whats happening, you realise that its all an illusion

Still up at 3:20 actually :)

I used to have 3 partitions, one with Windows 98SE on. But then I never used it. But I must admit for most of the old games 98 is much better to use.

I can't even play a lot of cool games in XP, like Tony Hawks 2 :(

Still up at 4:56 :D :D *yawn*

I liked Windows 98 only because it didn't know about XP. But now, I'll NEVER go back to old, boring 98; it just doesn't do it for me...

I'm still using 98SE too. It runs everything I need and configuring it is wonderfully easy, compared to XP. Still, I plan to upgrade to XP PRo in the next few weeks (finally!)

Thanx Inslaine. :)

I've had my copy of XP Pro since about March, but just haven't drummed up the inclination to back up all the gigs of data so that I can replace Win98 on my C: with XP Pro.

This is worsened by all the patches and security fixes et al that are constantly being brought out for WinXP. Win98's so old now, that it draws far less interest from the virus-kiddies and co.

I will make the jump someday though.

(and it may just be preceded by an installation of Mandrake on an empty 5Gb partition!)
