Info needed on Athlon64

Post by FUSED »

Hi guys

I am in the market for a new CPU and am looking at the Athlon 64 2800+.
Does anybody know the clock speed of this CPU and will it be able to play games like HL2 and Doom3 smoothly.

Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated

it should be fine for playing games, but you're gonna need a decent gfx card. get a 6600GT or one of the 6800's if you're prepared to spend that much money on a gfx card.
are you just upgrading or buying a new pc?

i would recommend you het the MSI NEO2 Platinum (939) it is the fastest nforce3 Ultra out there, even beats some nforce 4 boards, the board is VERY cheap for it performance, found out where and if you can get it. Then just buy the cheapest 939 cpu

Whats the difference between the 939 socket and the 754 socket?
I was looking at the MSI K8T Neo-FSR wich I can get for about R700, is that a good price?

A Newcastle 2800+ runs at 1800 MHz, the Clawhammer at 1600 MHz. You can only get the 2800+ in skt754, as the skt939's start at 3000+. Also, you don't get a Winchester core 2800+ (I might be wrong, but I've never seen\heard of one...)

Of course a 2800+ should be more than decent for playing all the current games. As Bobendren mentioned, you will also need a decent graphics card to ensure smooth gameplay...

EDIT: skt939 chips have an integrated dual-channel memory controller, whereas the skt754 ones have a single channel controller.

The Wnchester core is the best one out there, not here yet, or i have not seen it here. I'm buying me one later in the year from Germany. GREAT for overclocking! The price is good, but rather go for the NEO2 Platinum, it is WAY better for little extra.

And what do you guys think of this chip vs. the Pentium 4 2.8ghz.
Is the AMD better or the P4?

lol, don't start another AMD vs Intel, because heads are gonna roll. I choose AMD, for the simple reason that they have the best sullutions for cheap. But both are good, but if you dont have all that cash, buy AMD, ,gonaa get way better gaming performance on the cheaper amd than cheaper intel.
