Installing 98 & XP

Post by SoulBlade »

Hi

I got a partioned hdd (C:\ & D:\). I want to install XP on C & 98 on D.

Some said it was very difficult to do (installing 98 after XP). How do I do it? Why do I wanna do it? Some games don't play on XP (Even in compatibility mode).

And how do I reboot from XP into MSDOS? Why? 'cause that's the only why I can re-install XP in on a single partion (removing the windows dir.)
The other is booting in 98 (on partion c:\) and deleting it from there.

Thanks in advance.

make ysure you install Xp first and the format the second partion using a format disk.... when you run the 98 setup it will only ask you to select from a list of one partion or format the other, select the one that DON'T need formating.... install and install all the drivers again... thats it i think.........

Install Win98 first. Instead of installing to the default directory. Select the directory on the D: drive.

Install WinXP second. And select the default installation directory on the C: drive.

Yep, 98 first. The reason is that 98 doesn't support dual booting, so if you install it second, it will just overwrite XP. XP does support dual booting tho, so when you install it over something else (and select dual boot), it will intelligently move the old system's boot area, and replace it with a boot selection menu.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

erm, well then the problem aint really fixed, is it? As said before, if you install XP after 98, it will automatically (provided you choose the correct options) built a duel boot.
