To an extent.......mashing and cutting implements are useful, but drilling holes in one less so. [In my opinion, at any rate.]

I'm back from my holiday in Port Elizabeth. When next you find yourself there, you should feel compelled to book yourself a seat for supper at Ginger. :-)

I also touched a cheetah.

Otherwise.......hmmmm...I am being encouraged to partake in some recreational studying again to "stimulate my mind".....dunno so much about that. I am hoping that I can force myself to get into a routine of working on a crossword puzzle in the evenings.

Oh. Quite a timely time to check email...

Subject: Disease Outbreak Notification

Dear Valued Bromhof Vet Client

NOTICE OF DISEASE OUTBREAK - August 2014

Earlier this month there was a confirmed outbreak of a viral disease called Distemper at the Alberton SPCA, all dogs in their facility had to be euthanased and the facility placed under strict quarantine. While this is still quite far from us in Randburg unfortunatley due to the contagious and deadly nature of this disease it can spread very rapidly and we would like to advise all our clients to rather be safe than sorry in the event that the disease continues to spread and may come our way. In most cases treatment for Distemper in dogs is very costly and very often unsuccessful and the dogs will either die or require euthanasia. It is 100% preventable by vaccination!! Please ensure that your dogs vaccinations are up to date - if not please bring them in immediately and if you are unsure please contact us at reception to check on your dogs vaccination status. Up to date means a puppy requires 3 sets of vaccinations one month apart starting at 6 weeks of age and an adult dog needs a once a year vaccination. Please note distemper is not protected against by only vaccinating every few years - the vaccination must be done annually otherwise your dog is at risk. All dogs with no immunity who come into contact with the virus will become ill with it. Clinical signs range from respiratory, gastrointestinal to neurological and can vary significantly between dogs. The virus is airborne and can be spread via droplet exposure - much like the human flu virus. IT does not require direct dog to dog contact! You can carry the virus into your yard without realising it after being in an area that was contaminated by the virus. Cats CANNOT get the virus and this disease will not affect them. In the last few months we have also seen a significant increase in the incidence of Kennel cough around our area, this is not something that is routinely vaccinated for so we suggest if your dogs have not been done to consider having it done as well. Kennel cough while not often being deadly is very contagious - again all over in the environment.

I would also like to inform you that in order to serve you better Bromhof Vet Clinic now has extended opening hours - weekdays we are open 7:30am until 7pm and Saturdays we are now open from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Public holidays will be from 9am - 12pm.

Spring is also soon to be upon us - we have an amazing new product to protect against tick and flea infestations! Please enquire at reception about Bravecto - a single tasty chewable pill that will protect your dog against ticks and fleas for 3 months! It is very cost effective and works like a charm!! We recommend to start with treatment now before the raining season starts to prevent those flea infestations which many households in our area struggle to get under control in summer months!

Please don't hesitate to contact us if you need any further information!
Kind regards
Dr Le-anne Kleynhans and the Bromhof Vet Healthcare Team
I don't know how legit this is, but it IS their website and email address.

How did they get my Mom's email address?? My Mom doesn't stay in Alberton.
