I bought a Canon printer from Makro (South Africa)
When it stopped working last month I returned it for repair
but it was returned unrepaired because I was using
generic compatible ink cartridges!
Is this dog-in-the-manger approach legal & applied world-wide
or is it restriced to oppressing third world countries?
Does just Canon use this monopolistic extortion tactic or do All printer mnf?
Reader's should be warned so they do not repeat my error.
I append Canon's std warranty pdf that was sent to me. (See 5.1.1 & 5.1.2)
If I use Ferodo brakes on my Toyota is my warranty void?
I have been happily using robust HP printers and compatible inks
for over 30 years (when they used to dim my lights in use)
and seeing as their engines are made my Canon
I'm dishearted with the poor quality of my printer
& will stick to HP from now on.

Bad analogy is bad.kathrada wrote:If I use Ferodo brakes on my Toyota is my warranty void?
I do feel your pain tho, and your gripe is a legitimate one.
Unless they can prove the ink cartridges caused the failure they are being petty.
However this practise is not unique to Canon and printer ink is probably the most expensive liquid in the world, when sources thru printer manufacturers.
Something must be done.
I suggest you embark on a vigilante campaign against Cannon.
Some may call you a terrorist - I will call you a freedom fighter!

i will never cease to regret my optioning of the gracilis range of HP printers. sure, they're agile and inventive, but they break so easily and it costs a fortune to get that premium grade ink out of the fittings and fixtures
*from their POV, a far better analogy would be diesel-in-petrol-engine...
